Job Summary
The Solution Architect will support the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in designing modern, secure, and scalable enterprise solutions aligned with USDA’s enterprise architecture standards and IT governance frameworks. This role plays a key part in advancing USDA’s digital transformation goals, enabling data‑driven decision‑making, improving interoperability, and modernizing legacy systems. The architect will ensure all solutions comply with USDA OCIO policies, NIST guidelines, and federal security standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and develop enterprise‑level solution architectures aligned with USDA’s Enterprise Architecture Division (EAD) standards and frameworks.
- Create and maintain architecture documents and artifacts within USDA’s Enterprise Architecture Visioning Environment (EAVE).
- Ensure all solutions comply with USDA’s Integrated IT Governance Framework (IITGF), including CPIC, AgSDLC, EA, RMF, and security requirements.
- Lead cloud architecture design, cloud migration planning, and cloud hosting strategies based on USDA cloud architecture guidelines.
- Support digital transformation and modernization initiatives across USDA program areas, focusing on improving interoperability and data quality.
- Define and implement security, compliance, and risk‑management controls aligned with NIST standards.
- Lead architecture reviews and collaborate with stakeholders, program managers, development teams, and USDA OCIO to ensure consistency and standardization.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout project lifecycles, ensuring architectural integrity and alignment with mission needs.
Skills/Qualifications Required
- 10+ years’ experience as a Solutions Architect leading enterprise or federal modernization efforts.
- Strong experience with cloud architecture, enterprise integration, and system modernization.
- Solid understanding of USDA enterprise architecture, governance processes, and federal frameworks such as EA, CPIC, AgSDLC, RMF, and NIST security controls.
- Experience with multi‑methodology environments (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent cloud certification.
- Familiarity with enterprise applications, web services, mobile solutions, and database systems used in USDA environments.
