Field Operations / Service Operations / Service Vietnam -> Location: Vestas Asia Pacific provides both sales and service of wind power plants in Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, and more recently in the emerging countries across Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia.

In the Service department, we focus on providing our clients with high quality and the best possible production of their wind power plants. With our long-standing proven history and service experience globally, we work to ensure that we develop our clients' plants effectively to get the most out of each turbine while upholding our commitment to safety standards

Service Vietnam > Service, Southern Vietnam > Region 10

Responsibilities

  • Should be dependable, i.e. accurate, detailed and have good observation skills, follow complex technical instructions in English and improvise, when necessary, to complete work effectively and of the highest standard
  • The technician is also expected to continuously identify potential troubles in the Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) and actively contribute to operation improvements to assist us in building a brand worthy of reliable services and stable turbine fleets
  • Performs intermediate-level wind turbine maintenance, installation and commission tasks as assigned. This includes proficient operation and use of tools (including but not limited to specialized calibration, hydraulic, and power tools) and basic turbine equipment
  • Effectively control spare parts inventory and tools. Documents inventory where required and enters data into company system, such as SAP
  • Acts as a safety role model, encourages and recognizes others completing safe acts and intervenes when unsafe acts are being practiced. Adheres to all safety standards and procedures. Identifies gaps in safety standards as well as safety risks in the environment, implements effective risk mitigation and provides recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management
  • Effectively gathers information regarding turbine performance/issues. May diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions up to intermediate routine issues. Seeks assistance when encountering turbine issues outside trained skill level to ensure a suitable resolution
  • Follow a basic structured problem-solving process for troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks, including the use of diagnostic tools such as basic fluke meter functions and hydraulic pressure gauges. Initiates and performs most work tasks with limited supervision and follows defined instructions and maintenance schedules, completing plans as directed and performing according to written and verbal instruction from higher-level technical staff
  • Effectively promotes a healthy team environment by assisting teammates in accomplishing goals as well as mentoring lower-level technical staff. Visibly supports and promotes team spirit and collaboration, supports change initiatives and looks for improvement opportunities to job-appropriate processes and procedures while communicating through appropriate channels to implement improvements using the appropriate control management protocol
  • Interfaces with customers and may respond to customer inquiries. Will refer complex customer inquiries to higher level technical staff or manager. Demonstrates professional customer focus at all times.
  • Conduct re-certification of equipment and tools
  • Promoting and actively participating in 5S and LEAN
  • Plan and implement daily work demands based on on-site work rosters and schedules. Participate in toolbox and daily work team briefings
  • Report to the Site Supervisor
  • Other tasks as agreed with the Site Supervisor and Site Manager

Qualifications

  • Qualified mechanical or machinery experience, such as heavy machinery, marine engineer, tool operator, car-, agricultural- or truck mechanics
  • Previous experience in Wind Energy
  • Ability to complete detailed component inspections and report on findings
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices/protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation)
  • Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet-based program navigation, and ability to generate and interpret computer data
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain a Passport

Competencies

  • Ability to read, comprehend and write in English
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders 60-125 meters in height, ability to lift, push/pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight, and the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts and comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters
  • Ability to effectively participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training;
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
  • Comfortable working remotely with limited supervisory interaction
  • Flexible, as the position requires traveling and unplanned overtime may occur

Solutions for a sustainable energy system

The world is 1.1 °C warmer today than in pre-industrial times, and although the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decrease in CO₂ emissions, global warming remains on the wrong trajectory. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a 1.5 °C increase in global average surface temperature will have devastating consequences for our planet, causing extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and climatic changes. The temperature increase is largely caused by the growing concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere, and energy production and usage remain the primary emitter. It is therefore abundantly clear that urgent change is needed in the world’s energy mix. For instance, according to the International Energy Agency, a 40 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 will require nearly 75 percent of global electricity generation to come from low-emission sources by this time.

To change our planet’s trajectory, the most cost-effective and immediate path to meaningful emissions reduction is large-scale deployment of renewable energy. However, as the penetration of renewable electricity increases, this alone will not be enough to avoid a temperature increase above 1.5 °C. We must therefore address the following three challenges:

Accelerate the deployment of renewable energy

Wind and solar energy only account for around 9 percent of the global electricity generation mix today;⁶ it is therefore clear that the deployment of renewables needs to accelerate substantially for the world to stay within a 1.5 °C scenario.

Drive society-wide electrification

Today, only certain elements of society are powered by electricity and renewable energy – in fact, only 20 percent of energy consumption is electricity.⁷ A key lever to creating a sustainable energy system is to drive electrification forward and ensure mobility, heating, and industries can be powered by electricity from renewables.

Implement solutions for non-electrifiable use

In some industries and sectors electrification is not feasible anytime soon. However, Power-to-X and green hydrogen are well-known solutions that show great potential to address the challenges we face – for example, by helping to shift steel production and heavy transport to renewable energy sources.
