Job Summary

The Sales Application Engineer for Industrial and Environmental (I&E) role at Veolia WTS’s Sievers Analytical Instruments (AI) focuses on supporting internal and external sales teams in commercial processes and driving an excellent customer experience through advanced technical support. Most of AI’s technology is made in and distributed from its headquarters in Boulder, CO. The Sales Applications Engineer interfaces with many different parts of the business to gain and maintain expert level product knowledge, including but not limited to product management, technology (hardware and software), field service, and factory service teams. Veolia and AI have global presence with facilities in many countries including Hungary and Singapore, and its products are sold and serviced directly and indirectly by independent sales/service providers. This requires interfacing with people both internally and externally that represent a broad range of product knowledge, time zones, and cultural backgrounds.

This is a remote based travel position (roughly 50%), reporting directly to the I&E Sales Manager, and will have a matrix manager for duties related to service support. This role focuses on instruments designed for markets within the Industrial and Environmental business vertical. This includes InnovOx products, TOC-R3, Boron and Boron Ultra, and M-Series.

Key Characteristics:

  • The candidate will be continuously interfacing with members of the sales team, specialist team, managers, leaders in the aftermarket group, and with teams across the organization, so the desire and ability to work cross functionally within the business to drive projects and business initiatives is key
  • A strong customer focus is required to deliver on our goal of sales, service and support excellence.
    • This includes contributing directly to the customer and also indirectly in the collaboration, training, and support of service personnel globally, as well as to direct and indirect sales team members within the NAM and LATAM territories
  • A deep interest in understanding the mechanics and theory of how analytical instruments work is critical
  • This includes a desire to understand fluidic, mechanical, and electronic systems on a technical level
  • An understanding of the sales cycle steps is essential to provide high-level support for sales teams

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to instrument sales cycle:
    • Supporting team members during their sales meetings (onsite and remote) sharing technical and application knowledge
    • Supporting the instrument demo and trial processes in coordination with local sales representative
    • Owning the application approval process, from the data collection from a customer, up to creating an approval form and sharing all necessary information with the aftermarket team, allowing for a successful customer experience
    • Actively contributing to new applications development process, working with internal teams and customers
    • Providing value proposition and technical training to internal and external sales team members
  • Contribute to training by developing content that captures advanced troubleshooting and applications knowledge:
    • Training sales people, customers, field service engineers, specialists, and third parties, domestically and globally
    • Creating supplement training materials to meet the needs of the industrial and
    • environmental business
    • Creating video content, presentations, virtual training sessions, and documentation
    • Routinely engage with teams to anticipate needs and/or knowledge gaps
    • Traveling with internal industrial and environmental personnel
    • Participating in and contributing to industrial and environmental specific meetings
  • Create and maintain manuals that are distributed internally and externally
  • Participate in and contribute to various meetings hosted by different departments to obtain and maintain expert level knowledge of assigned products and services
  • Actively manage advanced technical or customer service cases
  • Work directly with sales/service personnel or with the end user to resolve quality, service, or customer relations issues (This may require phone/remote support or on-site support, traveling to customer sites)
  • Support the launch of new products by being actively involved with the NPI process.
    • Provide technical input during early design phases
    • Communicate information across the service organization as it relates to impacts to their job function
    • Participate in the testing of procedures
    • Conduct installations and validations for early instrument installs to build product
    • knowledge, training, and service manual content

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The candidate must have knowledge of general lab safety practices and manufacturing site safety practices.
  • Good, practical knowledge of analytical chemistry concepts and practices
  • Good, practical understanding of process control, water systems, and instrumentation
  • Must be able to proactively work cross-functionally to obtain the necessary technical information to support the job function and proper dissemination of information across the organization
  • Ability to adapt communication of technical information to meet the training needs of diverse audiences of different cultural backgrounds, levels of experience, and levels of education
  • Time management and the ability to shift priorities is a must in order to adequately address quality issues and customer concerns
  • Verbal communication and training skills are required to deliver effective training and presentations across the organization, to partners, and customers
  • Computer skills including the use of word processing, spreadsheets, and cloud based customer records management software
  • Project leadership skills required to effectively lead given projects through to completion
  • Comfortability and understanding of hand tools and diagnostic devices such as multimeters and temperature verification devices
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble instruments and document the process
  • Ability to travel 50%

Education & Experience
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or other related science discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience working in a laboratory, chemical processing, or manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years of experience working with the use and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.

Preferred:

  • 4 years working directly with customers/end users in a customer facing role.
  • Experience with the sales cycle and supporting sales teams.

  • Compensation - The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $90,000 - $110,000 USD
