As a Sales Compensation Analyst, your role will be pivotal in driving sales team motivation and revenue maximization. You'll coordinate cross-functional efforts to optimize sales territories and quotas, evaluate sales performance for growth insights, streamline commission calculations and maintain sales tooling. Collaborating with sales leaders, you'll design compelling incentives, while partnering with other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with budgets, data accuracy, and informative visualizations. Your work will include developing clear policies and documentation to enhance transparency and efficiency within the sales process and tools, all while maintaining strong communication throughout the entire process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Quota Management:
    • Collaborate with sales leadership and Finance to establish realistic and motivating sales quotas for individual sales representatives.
    • Monitor and analyze sales performance against assigned quotas, identifying trends and providing recommendations for adjustments as needed.
    • Communicate quota changes and updates to the sales team in a clear and timely manner.
  • Territory Optimization:
    • Define and maintain sales territories to ensure equitable distribution and coverage of target markets.
    • Continuously evaluate territory performance, making adjustments to maximize revenue potential.
    • Assist in aligning territories with strategic objectives, market trends, and emerging opportunities.
  • Commissions Calculation and Administration:
    • Develop and maintain a robust commission calculation system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payments to sales representatives.
    • Verify sales data and commission-related documents, resolving discrepancies and inquiries from salespeople.
    • Generate commission reports for finance and management to facilitate budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Collaboration with Business Intelligence and Revenue Systems Teams:
    • Work closely with the business intelligence and revenue systems teams to ensure the development and maintenance of intuitive dashboards and data structures that facilitate readily available insights for sales team members.
    • Collaborate on the design and implementation of data visualization tools that empower sales representatives with real-time access to critical performance metrics, enabling them to make informed decisions and drive sales growth.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Proactively collect and analyze sales data, providing insights on sales performance, trends, and potential areas for improvement.
    • Prepare regular reports and dashboards to present findings, highlighting key metrics related to quotas, territories, and commissions.
    • Recommend data-driven strategies to optimize sales effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Compliance and Policy Adherence:
    • Ensure that all commission-related processes and calculations adhere to company policies and legal regulations.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in regulations affecting sales compensation.
    • Help establish rules of engagement that will help oversee potential conflicts within the sales team.
  • Training and Communication:
    • Develop and deliver training materials and workshops for the sales team regarding quotas, territories, and commissions.
    • Maintain open and transparent communication channels to address inquiries and disseminate important updates.
    • Provide support and guidance to sales representatives regarding commission-related inquiries and concerns.
    • Document and send for signature commission agreements that outline how their variable will be calculated.
    • Publish up-to-date Circle of Excellence documentation reflective of agreements made with sales leadership and Finance.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
    • 5+ total years of experience in sales/sales operations with a strong understanding of sales processes, methodologies, and strategies in B2B.
    • 3+ years of experience in sales performance analysis, territory management, and commission strategy development, preferably within a high-growth sales environment.
    • Strong working knowledge of, and experience with sales performance management software, Salesforce, and data analytics software tools.
    • Experience in project management and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts and processes to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with expertise in working with data and advanced spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel, SQL).
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, business intelligence, and operations.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving sales strategies and market conditions, with a commitment to staying updated on industry trends.
  • Deep understanding of sales processes, sales funnel dynamics, and the ability to identify key performance drivers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude to foster a positive team environment.
  • High ethical standards and the ability to handle sensitive sales compensation information confidentially.
  • Exceptional attention to detail when creating and maintaining sales-related policies and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset to identify areas for improvement and implement strategic solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex data and insights clearly to diverse stakeholders.
