About the Products
Fluent is building a growing portfolio of AI-powered products. This role will be dedicated to one of the following products, depending on business needs and candidate fit:
- Marea (formerly Alara)
An AI-driven dental practice management platform that supports patient communication, scheduling, and operational workflows for dental clinics.
- Sadie Enterprise
An enterprise-grade AI voice agent built for a major global client. The platform handles live customer calls, processes order changes, and routes requests through a real-time human-in-the-loop approval system used by live operators. This is an active enterprise pilot with strong potential for broader rollout.
- New AI Product (TBD)
A net-new AI initiative currently in early definition, offering the opportunity to help shape product direction, architecture, and core capabilities from the ground up.
The Opportunity: AI Developer
We are looking for an AI-native Developer to join Fluent and take end-to-end ownership of one AI product. You will work on a production system used by real customers, building and shipping features, contributing to architectural decisions, and helping scale the platform in a live environment.
This is a high-impact role with meaningful ownership from Day 1, offering the chance to go deep on a single product while being part of a broader AI-first organization.
What You’ll Own
Product & Feature Development
- Build and ship production features across the frontend and backend
- Develop operator dashboard UI components (Next.js, React, TypeScript)
- Design and implement API endpoints and backend logic (Bun/Elysia, PostgreSQL)
- Integrate with external enterprise APIs and internal AI services
- Write and maintain tests for critical workflows
- Own and evolve key product areas, including the approval queue
Human-in-the-Loop Systems
- Build and refine SLA tracking, escalation logic, and operator workflows
- Create analytics views for call patterns, approvals, and performance metrics
- Support live production operations during the enterprise pilot
Production & Reliability
- Monitor, debug, and resolve issues in a real-time AI system
- Respond to operator and stakeholder feedback
- Improve system reliability, observability, and performance
Collaboration & Architecture
- Work closely with senior engineers on architecture and technical decisions
- Participate in code reviews (giving and receiving feedback)
- Document systems and features to support long-term maintainability
Who You Are
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent high-impact project experience
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript
- Hands-on experience with React and/or Next.js
- Solid understanding of REST APIs and relational databases
- Experience using AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) as part of your daily workflow
- Comfortable owning features end-to-end, from requirements through deployment
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or component libraries
- Exposure to voice AI, conversational AI, or real-time systems
- Experience with enterprise integrations and production environments
- Open-source contributions or side projects you can share
