School of Arts & Sciences – Social Work

The MSW Program, within the School of Arts and Sciences, invites applicants to apply for the online adjunct faculty pool for positions beginning in the 2023/2024 academic year.

UMass Global students represent a wide range and diverse cross section of the national population. Our non-traditional students work full time, have families, and possess a variety of employment and life experiences. They come to UMass Global with a broad assortment of technology sophistication.

MSW courses are fully built, and our adjuncts do not have responsibility to create syllabi or curriculum.

Our adjunct faculty are responsible for:

  • Using innovative teaching techniques,

  • Completing course prep such as reviewing the course, ordering texts, and understanding the course topics and course set-up,

  • Being present in the course at least four days a week,

  • Responding to students in a timely manner through the course or email,

  • Grading within the university guidelines, which includes detailed feedback on all assignments,

  • Meeting with students on Zoom or by telephone,

  • Maintaining course records such as attendance, grades, etc.

  • Modeling the NASW Code of Ethics and monitoring students to ensure the same,

  • Attending adjunct faculty meetings three times a year, and

  • Completing all, new faculty, on-boarding training.

The intent of the pool is to create a list of qualified applicants who are interested in teaching up to a maximum load of 9 sections per year. UMass Global offers eight-week sessions (six per academic year). Courses are three-credits per session.

Position Summary:

We are seeking well-qualified, highly motivated, well-organized individuals with online teaching experience to teach the following courses:

  • First and second-year field seminar

  • Human Behavior in the Social Environment

  • Social Work Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Communities and Organizations

  • Social Work Research

  • Social Welfare Policy

  • Social Work Law and Ethics

  • Family Violence

  • Social Work Electives

Applicants from the following states will receive first consideration.

Remote work from any of the following states – Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin.

Recruiting in California and Massachusetts only if position job responsibilities warrant it.

The following salary range reflects compensation paid for a 3-unit course (101.25 hours) and varies based on the faculty member’s course assignment (see the full Adjunct Compensation Policy for details including varying credit levels):

  • Undergraduate course assignment: $3348 per course

  • Graduate course assignment: $3748 per course

All course sections are taught online via Blackboard. Synchronous lectures, when required, are held Monday-Thursday on Zoom starting between 3-7pm PST.

Contracts are 10 weeks (1 week designated for prep, 8 weeks of instruction, 1 week for processing final grades).

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program and two-years, post-masters work experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience at the university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching. Candidates must have the ability to effectively teach adult learners. Candidates should have a strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, and academic excellence. An ability to work effectively with a broad mix of student ages and culturally diverse backgrounds is also highly desirable.

Transcripts issued outside the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. This report must be attached to your online application at the time of applying.
