General Role Description

Provide specialized, variable frequency drive (VFD) and control engineering expertise to clients and field engineers

Role Accountabilities

  • Advise clients and Company engineers to resolve issues, as the factory expert for the Company’s VFD products
  • Analyze client equipment failures using remote diagnostics tools
  • Provide technical support to clients and other engineers, when not in the field
  • Perform commissioning, installations, quality inspections, and performance testing of VFD’s to meet design performance criteria
  • Troubleshoot, isolate issue, repair and/or replace defective components
  • Report to the factory any errors of deficiencies in hardware, software or system design discovered from consultation with clients and Company engineers. Implement corrective actions outlined in Field Change Notices as assigned
  • Update client relationship management (CRM) tool with appropriate case information to ensure timely and accurate reports
  • Prepare Service Advices and issue to clients and field engineers as necessary
  • Write and/or review field reports, and issue to clients as requested
  • Acquire and maintain current safety qualifications appropriate to the assigned tasks and comply with Company and client safety requirements and good safety practices
  • Process warranty replacements, expediting when necessary
  • Respond to client issues after regular business hours on rotating phone duty
  • Investigate suggested field changes, report problems and recommend solutions to parent company as necessary

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering field or equivalent via education and/or work experience
  • 3 years of field engineering, customer support, development, test, or project engineering experience in AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) in an industrial or laboratory environment

- Strong knowledge of power conversion

  • Demonstrated experience in configuring and tuning both digital and analog regulators
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
  • Ability to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet
  • Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 35%, sometimes with limited notice

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of field engineering or customer support engineering experience in AC and DC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) in an industrial environment
  • Expertise in PLC manufactured by Toshiba, GE, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi Electric
  • A/C and DC drive engineering experience to include AC/DC2000, AV/DC300, Innovation Series, T250, and legacy drives
  • Demonstrated field engineering experience in metals rolling and/or container crane systems industries

- Controls engineering experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LAN Topology for ISBUS, Profibus, Modbus, EGD, DeviceNet, TC-net, MELPAC, and TOSLINE
