The OpenText Enterprise Architect is a strategic role responsible for the end-to-end architecture of an organization's OpenText solutions portfolio. This role ensures architectural cohesion and interoperability across all OpenText components – including Extended ECM, Archive Center, and Exstream – within a unified public cloud environment (Azure/AWS). Acting as a cross-domain leader, the OpenText Enterprise Architect aligns content management, archiving, and customer communication platforms into a cohesive architecture that supports enterprise business goals. The role is not a hands-on product specialist but provides oversight and guidance to product-specific architects, ensuring that each solution’s design adheres to a unified architectural vision, optimal integration patterns, and platform-wide governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership Across OpenText Solutions: Provide cross-domain architectural leadership for the OpenText ecosystem (Extended ECM, Archive Center, Exstream). Develop and maintain an overarching architecture blueprint that unifies these solutions in the cloud, ensuring consistency and best practices across all components.

  • Unified Cloud Architecture Design: Design and optimize the deployment of OpenText solutions on public cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS). Ensure the architecture leverages cloud-native services for scalability, reliability, and security (for example, using containerized OpenText Cloud Editions and managed cloud services where appropriate. Work closely with cloud infrastructure architects to align OpenText solution architecture with the cloud platform’s capabilities, networking, and security configurations.

  • Coordination of Specialized Architects: Lead and coordinate the efforts of product-specific architects and technical teams (Extended ECM Architect, Archive Center Architect, Exstream/Customer Communication Architect, Cloud Infrastructure Architect, etc.). Provide guidance and oversight during solution design and implementation to ensure each component’s architecture aligns with the overall OpenText enterprise architecture.

  • Governance and Standards: Establish and enforce architecture governance for the OpenText platform. Define integration standards, design guidelines, and best practices for how Extended ECM, Archive Center, and Exstream interconnect and share data. Ensure compliance with enterprise IT standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements across all content and data flows. This includes setting policies for content lifecycle management (from creation to archiving/disposition), access controls, data retention, and compliance auditing within the OpenText solutions.

  • Lifecycle Management and Innovation: Oversee the lifecycle of the OpenText solution stack, including planning for upgrades, patches, and the introduction of new features or modules. Provide strategic direction for incremental enhancements, ensuring that the platform remains modern, efficient, and aligned with future-state architecture goals.

  • Troubleshooting and Performance Oversight: Although not hands-on in product configuration, take an active role in high-level troubleshooting and performance tuning discussions. Analyze how the architecture might be contributing to performance bottlenecks or integration issues and guide teams in optimizing end-to-end throughput (for example, ensuring efficient document retrieval between Archive Center and Extended ECM, or high-performance generation of documents in Exstream with content from the ECM). Ensure the architecture is robust, with proper failover, backup, and disaster recovery strategies in place across the OpenText landscape.

  • Documentation and Communication: Develop comprehensive architecture documentation and diagrams for the integrated OpenText environment. Clearly communicate architectural designs and decisions to technical teams, executives, and stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Architecture Experience:Experience in a senior architecture role. Proven expertise in enterprise content management or information management domains is required, preferably with direct experience in OpenText products.

  • OpenText Platform Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of OpenText’s core solutions – Extended ECM, Archive Center, and Exstream. Understanding of each product’s capabilities and how they function together within an integrated ecosystem.

  • Cloud Architecture Proficiency: Strong experience designing and deploying applications on public cloud platforms Azure/AWS. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure components and how to leverage them for OpenText solution deployment.

  • Integration Skills: Demonstrated ability to design integration solutions for enterprise systems. Familiar with integration technologies and patterns used to connect content management and related systems. Able to ensure data consistency and process flow across multiple applications.

  • Enterprise Architecture & Governance: Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies and experience implementing governance processes. Strong understanding of compliance and security standards relevant to content management and archiving.

  • Leadership and Communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to translate business strategies and requirements into effective technical architectures, and to articulate complex architecture concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear manner.

  • Problem-Solving Aptitude: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Able to foresee potential architectural challenges and proactively devise solutions. Comfortable leading the resolution of complex technical issues that span multiple systems or technologies.
