Position Summary:

The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) program invites applications for a Program Faculty member in a fully online teaching environment. The MSBS program is a developmental, academically rigorous program designed to prepare students for entry into a wide range of health professions, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and other allied health fields. The faculty member will play a central role in supporting student success through high-quality instruction, academic advising, and mentorship tailored to students pursuing professional healthcare pathways.

Over the course of the academic year, Program Faculty members may be responsible for teaching online courses, providing comprehensive student advisement, contributing to curriculum development, engaging in scholarship or professional development, and participating in service to the program and institution. Faculty are expected to foster an inclusive, collaborative learning environment that supports diverse learners and promotes readiness for interprofessional healthcare education and practice. While teaching is the primary responsibility in accordance with institutional workload policies, adjustments to teaching load may be made by the Program Director based on program needs and individual strengths.

The program especially seeks applicants with demonstrated expertise in student advising and mentorship, particularly for pre-health populations, as well as experience in interprofessional education within the health sciences. Ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to supporting students’ academic progression and professional identity formation as future members of collaborative healthcare teams.

Principle Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Hold regular virtual office hours and be accessible to students for academic support
  • Monitor student progress and provide individualized feedback to promote mastery of course material and readiness for health professions training
  • Maintain and deliver course content in alignment with established program curriculum and learning outcomes (course materials are pre-developed)
  • Collaborate with program leadership to ensure instructional quality and consistency across courses
  • Remain current in biomedical and health sciences education to enhance instructional effectiveness

Advising (Pre-Health Advising Focus)

  • Maintain an advisee load consistent with program needs, with a focus on pre-health student populations
  • Provide individualized advising and mentorship related to academic performance, career planning, and preparation for professional school applications (e.g., medicine, dentistry, PA, and other health professions)
  • Guide students in developing competitive application materials, including personal statements and related components; provide letters of recommendation as appropriate
  • Support students in understanding pathways to health professions, including timelines, prerequisites, and experiential expectations
  • Monitor and document student progress and academic standing; collaborate with program leadership to support student success and intervention efforts as needed

Professional Engagement and Program Development

  • Contribute to the advancement of interprofessional education (IPE) within the MSBS program, including integrating collaborative, team-based healthcare perspectives into teaching and advising
  • Engage in interprofessional collaboration across health science disciplines to support program initiatives and student learning
  • Participate in ongoing program evaluation and quality improvement efforts, particularly related to student outcomes and readiness for health professions training

Service to Program and Institution

  • Participate in program and institutional activities, including faculty meetings, admissions support, and student progress review processes
  • Collaborate with the Program Director/Chair and colleagues on program initiatives and strategic priorities
  • Serve on committees or working groups as assigned
  • Support a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment

Position Qualifications:

  • Earned PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) and demonstrated academic preparation and/or professional experience in a health sciences discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in higher education; experience in online and/or asynchronous instruction preferred
  • Experience with or strong commitment to student-centered teaching and supporting diverse learners
  • Demonstrated experience in student advising or mentorship; experience in pre-health advising strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with pathways to health professions education (e.g., medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, and related fields) preferred
  • Experience with interprofessional education in the health sciences or collaborative, team-based healthcare training preferred
