Job Description

Are you an experienced professional accountant looking to make a positive impact in local government? Stirling Council are currently seeking a detail oriented, technical, Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Finance team. As the Corporate Accountant, you will provide a comprehensive accountancy support service to a range of customers across the finance department and the wider council teams. You will be the professional finance lead for key council finance functions including capital, treasury management, VAT and the year-end accounts preparation in accordance with the Accounting Code of Practice. You will be the key liaison with external audit.

You will lead on the development and monitoring of the Council’s capital programme, maintaining the fixed asset register, asset valuations and providing specialist advice on capital accounting and capital financing. You will have responsibility for preparing budgets and supporting the wider corporate team to provide support, resilience and segregation of duties across the key functional areas. This is an opportunity to review and develop current processes and practices to enhance service outcomes through robust financial controls, best practice and analysis.

Reporting to the Finance Team Leader, you will be the key point of liaison between finance, external auditors and councils’ wider corporate functions. You will contribute to the council’s financial planning and production of year end accounts. You will also deputise for the team leader where necessary including attending various council committee meetings.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Accountant, with post qualification experience and continued professional development in these key areas. You will also be able to demonstrate experience of delivering professional financial support services. This will include a combination of finance, systems, analytical and personal skills to deliver an effective corporate finance function to meet current and future business needs. Experience of Oracle Fusion would be advantageous.
