The Opportunity: Electrical Project Engineer
In this role, you may:
Serve as a technical specialist or project lead, offering coordination, guidance, and subject-matter expertise on substation projects.
Support a wide range of substation designs up to 765kV, including both detailed engineering and EPC work.
Develop protection and control design deliverablesrelay protection schemes, panel layouts, one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring designs, etc.
Prepare physical design documentsyard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, building layouts, auxiliary AC/DC systems, and more.
Perform or oversee design quality reviews.
Mentor junior engineers and help strengthen team capabilities.
Develop equipment specifications and bills of material for procurement and construction planning.
Coordinate closely with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
Present designs, proposals, and project updates.
Travel as needed to client sites, vendor locations, and project sites.
Manage design schedules, budgets, and project documentation.
Support business development and pursuit activities.
Key Responsibilities
Continue developing technical expertise while providing guidance on standards, codes, design approaches, and internal policies.
Apply and uphold the companys quality program; help others ensure compliance.
Prepare engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; conduct research and recommend materials or equipment.
Oversee data collection and management for engineering tasks.
Perform engineering calculations; manage budgets, schedules, and quality functions.
Apply advanced engineering techniques and delegate tasks to junior staff.
Review and guide the work of less experienced team members.
Lead production teams, coordinate across disciplines, and/or serve as engineer of record.
Collaborate effectively with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
Understand client priorities for high-voltage substation projects and ensure they are met.
Support proposals and client-facing activities.
Serve as a technical specialist, provide consultation, and help develop or apply advanced engineering methods.
Contribute to mentoring, performance management, training, and team development.
Assist with resource planning within your discipline.
Handle administrative tasks such as implementing group procedures, ensuring compliance with company programs, and approving timesheets or expense reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in high-voltage substation design (physical and/or protection & control)
Prior work as a project lead or technical specialist for utility substation projects
QA/QC experience
Strong coordination and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited program
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Ability to pass pre-employment screenings (background check, drug test, motor vehicle check as required)
