Stay safe on Himalayas

Never send money to companies. Jobs on Himalayas will never require payment from applicants.

Signaloid provides computing platforms for dramatically reducing the runtime and compute infrastructure requirements of many critical workloads in the finance, robotics, and manufacturing sectors. Organizations can run their applications over our computing platforms and in the process replace time-consuming Monte Carlo methods with deterministic computations on probability distributions that produce the same output probability distribution information. With a range of different deployment methods including a cloud compute platform, optional on-premises deployment, and edge hardware, our UxHw® technology is designed for easy adoption and integration into an organization's information technology infrastructure.

Our team consists of contrarian engineers with combined research, engineering, and leadership experience from Apple, ARM, Bell Labs, CMU, University of Cambridge, IBM Research, MIT, NEC Labs, and University of Oxford. Role Description

Within the first year in this role, you will:

  • Lead the implementation of extensions to the Signaloid Cloud Compute Engine backend.
  • Be responsible for extending the testing and QA infrastructure of the Signaloid Cloud Compute Engine backend.
  • Be responsible for taking the initiative to identify whether the quality level of your implementation meets both explicit and implicit design and quality objectives of the team.
  • Be responsible for delivering new functionality and tests on a regular release schedule and to work with other parts of the engineering and commercial teams.
  • Design, implement, and document improvements to the Signaloid Cloud Compute Engine API.
  • Contribute to improving operational procedures in the engineering team.

After a year in this role, you can expect to:

  • Contribute to and lead the definition of the direction of the evolution of key parts of the Signaloid Cloud Compute Engine, either as an individual contributor or as a team lead.
  • Gain increased autonomy and responsibility for strategy within the engineering team.
  • Have the opportunity, based on your demonstrated performance, to take on new challenges within Signaloid.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or master's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • More than three years of experience working as a backend or cloud engineer.
  • Proficiency in one or more of: TypeScript, Go, or Python.
  • Experience in implementing REST APIs and familiarity with writing API schemas.
  • Experience in AWS core services (DynamoDB, Lambda, S3, VPC, EC2/ASG, SQS).
  • Experience deploying scalable, production-grade cloud applications.
  • Experience with Git and proficiency in using Linux.
  • Ability to work in an English-speaking environment.
  • A willingness to listen to people until they feel understood.
  • Honesty, empathy, and a willingness to see the world from the viewpoint of others.

Additional Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working at a startup.
  • Experience with SOC 2 attestation and ISO 27001 certification.
  • Experience with DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and load testing (e.g., k6).
  • Experience in Test-Driven Development.
  • Some exposure to frontend development; comfort occasionally working outside the backend layer when needed.
  • Experience developing full-stack applications.

Our Recruiting Procedure

  • All positions require you to write a brief cover letter that should be no more than one page long. The more concise the better. You can also substitute the cover letter for a snippet of code that will run on the signaloid.io platform; be creative! We use the cover letter / code snippet to screen for communication skills, as clear communication is essential in a remote working environment.
  • Applicants who pass the cover letter screening receive an initial 15-minute Zoom screening call with the CEO/CTO.
  • Applicants who pass the screening interview will be given a coding project that can be solved using the Free Tier of Signaloid's Signaloid Cloud Developer Platform. We will also provide you with additional free credits on the Signaloid Cloud Developer Platform. The coding exercise will be simple enough to complete in a few hours. You will however have a time window of one week or two weeks (your choice) to complete the coding exercise. You are encouraged to make your implementation open source on GitHub.
  • Applicants who successfully complete the project are invited to interview with our team. One discussion point during this interview will be the outcome of the take-home project you submitted.
  • In the final stage, applicants are invited to a “virtual on-site” simulation with their potential future colleagues, involving a hands-on half-day simulation of a real working scenario, solving a task relevant to the position you are applying for.
  • Applicants who choose to use AI coding tools for the coding project or the “virtual on-site” simulation are expected to appropriately document, comment, test, and be able to explain the AI-generated source code and the methodology that they used for generating it.

Benefits

A flexible remote-first work environment

  • Be part of an international team with the flexibility to choose where you live, as long as you are available during the working hours of 09:00 to 17:00 UK time.
  • Join the rest of the team several times each year for an in-person session somewhere in Europe.

Competitive compensation

  • Yearly bonus based on company's Objectives and Key Results (OKR) performance and bi-yearly bonus based on your project team's OKR performance.
  • Simple transparent compensation across the company, with four pay levels, in all roles, based on skill level: Contributor, Senior Contributor, Lead Contributor, and Principal Contributor.
  • All full-time employees receive attractive stock options package.

A driven but respectful environment

  • We never speak ill of others even if we differ in our viewpoints; we show up every day with a sense of urgency; we treat each other with respect as though each day were our last.
  • No isolated "projects": No person in the team works in isolation and a successful outcome for the thread of work you lead will inherently depend on getting help from (and helping) other members of the team.
