In 2017, a team of engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory recognized that the methane detection technology they had developed for the Mars Curiosity rover could solve a critical problem here on Earth. The same sensors designed to hunt for signs of life on Mars were perfectly suited for detecting methane leaks at oil and gas facilities - where fugitive emissions represent both an environmental concern and a significant loss of valuable resources.

This insight led to the founding of SeekOps as a technology spinoff from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The company set out to commercialize the proprietary laser methane sensor technology, SeekIR, which was originally developed for space exploration. By mounting these highly sensitive sensors on autonomous drones, SeekOps created a revolutionary approach to methane leak detection and quantification that dramatically improved upon traditional methods. Today, SeekOps provides field-proven emissions monitoring services to oil and gas, renewable natural gas, waste management, and utility companies worldwide, helping them ensure regulatory compliance, protect asset integrity, and reduce their environmental footprint through accurate, actionable emissions data.
