The Registry Educator is an Oncology Data Specialist - Certified (ODS-C) responsible for completing education, training, and assessment activities under the direction and supervision of the Senior Manager, Registry Education & Quality Assurance. This individual will manage and conduct training programs for ODS-Cs with little or no abstracting experience.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Coordinator for ODS-C Registry Abstracting Training Programs
Follow established training program guidelines and advise on potential need for updates
Perform quality reviews on abstracts
Provide feedback and training via review process
Meet with training program participants weekly
Assign appropriate education and training
Monitor and record performance
Deliver weekly progress reports to participant’s manager
COMPLIANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Supports Savista's Compliance Program by demonstrating adherence to all relevant compliance policies and procedures as evidenced by training participation and daily practice; notifying management when there is a compliance concern or incident; demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information; promoting confidentiality and using discretion when handling patient information.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- Oncology Data Specialist - Certified with 3 – 5 years relevant experience and 95% abstracting accuracy rate
- Score at least 84% on Registry Abstractor pre-employment assessment
- Pass QA Analyst pre-employment assessment
- Knowledge of and experience using STORE data collection requirements, Solid Tumor Rules, ICD-O-3, Hematopoietic Database & Manual, SEER Program Coding & Staging Manual, EOD, SEER Summary Stage, AJCC Staging Manual 8th edition and Version 9 Protocols, and NCCN Guidelines
- Knowledge of and experience using the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries standards and resources
- Commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current and changing abstracting guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings including with clients, colleagues, and partners
- Ability to learn and use new technology and software applications
- Proficiency in using MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred
- Score at least 90% on Registry Abstractor pre-employment assessment
- At least one year’s experience as a Savista CCRS colleague who has performed abstracting duties and undergone the QA Review process
- Experience performing Savista Abstracting QA Reviews
- At least 2 of the last 3 years abstracting experience in a CoC approved or SEER registry
- At least 1 year of cancer registry management experience at a CoC accredited facility
- Experience with multiple cancer registry software systems and electronic medical record systems
- Adept at understanding and implementing usage of new software
- Ability to travel as needed
- Experience developing and/or presenting educational and training materials on cancer registry topics
Savista is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $75,000.00 to $85,000.00. However, specific compensation for the role will vary within the above range based on many factors including but not limited to geographic location, candidate experience, applicable certifications, and skills.
