About The Role:
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Finance and Accounting will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the financial health and operational efficiency of Plume. This role will manage financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and all aspects of the finance and accounting function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial insights. The Director will provide strategic direction and leadership for financial processes, support operational decision-making through financial analysis, and foster a high-performance culture within the finance and accounting teams.
Responsibilities for this role are below:
Financial Planning & Strategic Support (30%)
- Lead the strategic direction and overall management of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes in collaboration with the COO and executive leadership.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze key metrics, and provide insights for operational decision-making.
- Support the COO in evaluating market opportunities, roadmap trade-offs, and competitive positioning.
- Assist in translating financial insights into compelling narratives to inform internal decision-making and support external partnerships.
- Provide strategic oversight for the bi-annual budgeting process for the organization, guiding the Accounting Manager in project management and asset preparation.
Accounting Operations & Compliance (40%)
- Oversee and ensure the integrity and timely completion of the month-end close process, providing strategic review of financial statements and insights for executive leadership
- Ensure that cross-departmental inbound requests are efficiently managed and resolved by the accounting team, serving as an ultimate escalation point for complex issues.
- Oversee the overall invoicing and expense management processes, ensuring effectiveness and compliance, and serving as the ultimate escalation point for critical unpaid invoices or systemic issues.
- Establish and champion the development and maintenance of robust standard operating procedures for financial processes, ensuring their effectiveness and compliance, and providing guidance to the Accounting Manager.
Treasury & Tax Management (20%)
- Develop and maintain the treasury management policy, providing strategic oversight of cash flow and allocation, and ensuring financial stability (the Accounting Manager monitors and transfers cash between accounts as needed for cash flow management, and ensures cash is allocated across financial organizations in alignment with policy) [conversation history].
- Provide strategic guidance and ultimate review for the annual update of MSA agreements between our PC and MSO and the appropriate allocation of cash across corporate entities, ensuring compliance and optimal financial structuring
- Strategically oversee all quarterly and annual tax filings, ensuring compliance and optimizing tax positions, and serving as the executive point of contact for complex tax matters
Leadership & Team Management (10%)
- Manage and mentor our Accounting Manager, fostering their growth and ensuring they effectively lead the offshore accounting team to complete daily accounting tasks and monthly close, ensuring efficient and effective processes across all accounting functions, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement
- Support the operational maturation of the organization holistically via common business operating frameworks and tools
- Utilize data analysis to drive operational improvements and inform strategic decisions.
Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in an accounting or finance leadership role, ideally with experience scaling financial operations in a growth-oriented environment.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and practices
- Experience in the healthcare industry or digital health/telehealth sectors.
- Familiarity and proficiency with Netsuite is required
- Proficiency in spreadsheets and Google Workspace, with the ability to build and manage financial models.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Comfortable in a fully remote work environment.
