Pear VC

At Pear, we specialize in pre-seed and seed investments, partnering with founders at the earliest stages of their journey. Over the last 10 years, we’ve invested in eight companies, each valued at over $1 billion dollars and helped take three companies public.

Our investment philosophy is simple: invest in the very best founders and do whatever it takes to help them succeed. We act as an extension of the companies we invest in, significantly increasing their chances of success. Our investing team consists of deep functional experts who have founded, built, and scaled more than ten companies. Our founder services team brings extensive experience across all aspects of company building, including hiring, growth, fundraising, marketing, and beyond.

At Pear, we are dedicated to empowering startups to achieve their full potential.

About the role:

Are you passionate about creating dynamic, community-driven events? Pear VC is seeking a proven Operations Associate to manage the execution of impactful events at our San Francisco Pear Studio space, while also owning the office’s daily operations.

At Pear Studio, events are a cornerstone for fostering community, providing founders with opportunities to learn, grow, and expand their networks. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and executing a wide range of events, from intimate founder gatherings to larger networking events. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring our founders have an exceptional experience during their time at Pear Studio.

If you’re organized, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and love working in event management, this role could be a great fit for you.

What You'll Do:

Event Management & Execution (40%):

  • Lead the planning, execution, and coordination of events hosted at Pear Studio, ensuring each event runs smoothly and provides value to our founders and community.

  • Own smaller events independently from concept to completion, including pre-planning, coordination, day-of logistics, and post-event follow-up tasks.

  • Provide on-site support for events, ensuring seamless registration, guest check-ins, and overall event flow.

  • Collaborate with the operations team on larger, cross-functional events, managing responsibilities like catering, venue setup, and audio/visual needs.

  • Maintain relationships with vendors, caterers, and event partners to ensure high-quality event execution.

  • Be available for evening events 1-2 times per week, supporting after-hours programs when needed.

Office & Community Management (60%):

  • Ensure the Pear Studio is a welcoming, organized space for founders and guests, with a focus on creating a professional environment.

  • Greet guests and manage Pear Studio member onboarding, including access badges and orientation, helping build a connected community.

  • Oversee the ordering and maintenance of office and kitchen supplies to support daily studio needs.

  • Liaise with building management and vendors for studio maintenance, ensuring the facility operates smoothly. Help troubleshoot Pear Studio problems as they pop up.

  • Given the focus on office management, you’ll be expected to be in the Pear Studio office 5 days per week, with one day being in Menlo Park Studio.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Proven experience in event management: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in executing events of all sizes.

  • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a dynamic environment with busy event seasons.

  • Tech-savvy with tools like Google Suite, Mailchimp, Canva, and event management software like Gatsby and Lu.ma. Prior experience on these exact softwares is a plus but not required.

  • Flexibility to support events during evenings as needed.

  • Professional, warm demeanor for interacting with founders, guests, and colleagues.

What the Role Offers:

  • A chance to lead and manage high-impact events that foster the growth of tech entrepreneurs.

  • Opportunities to develop deep insights into the venture capital and startup world, with a direct impact on Pear VC’s community-building efforts.

  • Work in a state-of-the-art office, just a short walk from Chase Center, complete with snacks and weekly team lunches.

At the heart of Pear VC is a culture deeply rooted in the founder's journey. We began as Pejman Mar Ventures in 2013, founded by Pejman Nozad and Mar Hershenson, with a singular mission: to build a venture capital firm that genuinely and actively supports founders. Pejman, an angel investor, saw the immense potential in creating a firm where founder support was paramount. He partnered with Mar, and together they laid the foundation for what would become Pear VC three years later. The name 'Pear' itself is symbolic of our philosophy – pear trees are known for their longevity and strength, yet they require nurturing and the right conditions to flourish, much like startups. Our founders themselves embody resilience and diverse experiences. Pejman immigrated to the U.S. from Iran with very little and carved a unique path into venture capital, initially investing while working as a rug dealer. Mar, originally from Barcelona, brings a wealth of technical and operational expertise, holding a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford and having founded three companies herself.

Our core values emphasize a hands-on, empathetic approach. We understand that building something from nothing is an arduous journey, often marked by setbacks. Having navigated these challenges ourselves through founding over ten companies, our team is uniquely positioned to empathize with and guide entrepreneurs. We are not just investors; we are company builders. Our commitment extends beyond capital; we roll up our sleeves to help founders find product-market fit, craft go-to-market strategies, recruit crucial early hires, and navigate the complexities of fundraising. We pride ourselves on being there for our founders through thick and thin, offering support when challenges arise, be it an elusive product-market fit, a missed target, or team changes. We believe in 'active patience,' fostering an environment where learning and long-term vision take precedence over short-term pressures. This philosophy has enabled us to partner with exceptional founders from the earliest stages, often pre-seed and seed, to build category-defining companies. Our community is a cornerstone of our approach, exemplified by Pear Studio, a collaborative workspace designed to foster innovation and connection among entrepreneurs. We are dedicated to identifying and nurturing exceptional talent, helping them transform great ideas into iconic, long-lasting companies.
