Within Packt, the publishing business is spread across a number of verticals, each focused on a particular domain. This role is for the LLM Engineering vertical.

About the LLM Engineering Vertical

We are a cross-functional, impact-driven team powering one of the most exciting phases of the Tech Revolution i.e. LLMs

Generative AI and LLM Engineering verticals deals with 3 major topic areas:

Natural Language Processing: Enables machines to understand and generate human language across text and speech. Used for search, chatbots, translation, summarization, sentiment analysis, and information extraction.

Computer Vision: Gives computers the ability to perceive and interpret images and video. Includes classification, detection, segmentation, tracking, and OCR for applications from healthcare to autonomy.

Large Language Models: Large transformer models trained on vast corpora to predict and produce coherent text (and code). Powers chat assistants, Q&A, summarization, and agents; adaptable via fine-tuning and retrieval augmentation.

Role Overview

As a Senior Editor, you will own the content lifecycle from concept to publication and beyond, working with Relationship Leads, Growth Leads and Authors to deliver high-quality, impactful products. You will be expected to use your previous editorial experience to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact on in-development titles. You’ll engineer content at every stage: shaping proposals, enhancing structure, coaching authors and ensuring products are updated to meet user needs. Beyond books, you’ll also contribute to multi-format learning such as labs, code walkthroughs, visual explainers, newsletters and live events. Success in this role is defined by one question: what format, structure and delivery will make this content most useful to the reader?

We've recently undergone a company-wide transformation to better serve tech professionals in a rapidly evolving, AI-powered world. Our business is now structured around small, agile vertical teams, each focused on a specific tech domain or topic area, that combine publishing, product, relationship leadership, and marketing capabilities to build tailored content and learning solutions.

This means we move fast, experiment often, and work closely with our audiences to understand what they need. We're looking for people who thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and who are motivated by delivering real impact, whether through building innovative products, shaping insightful content, enabling smarter systems and operations, or building and sustaining strong relationships with expert contributors and communities.

If you're excited by meaningful work, curious about how technology is reshaping careers and industries, and want to be part of a mission-led team, Packt could be the right place for you.

What You Will Do

Your core initial focus will be on development editing, with the role broadening to take in greater ownership and more formats over time.

Editorial: Product Development and Author Collaboration

  • Ensure content moves beyond tutorials to deliver practical insights, decision-making trade-offs and real-world problem solving. Focus on unique author knowledge.
  • Evaluate proposals and outlines with a focus on audience, JTBDs, and competitive differentiation.
  • Coach authors to sharpen their teaching approach, adapt feedback styles to different communication strengths, and manage relationships to improve content quality and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with technical reviewers to ensure accuracy, incorporating their feedback and guiding authors to address comments effectively.
  • Assess titles for AI-generated content or plagiarism and take action to remedy.

Quality & Process Ownership

  • Own quality sign-off for every product, ensuring balance between editorial depth and speed-to-market.
  • Maintain standards on plagiarism, consistency, and readability.
  • Share best practices across the editorial team to strengthen processes.
  • Provide periodic content health checks for the Portfolio Director and Product Manager to support portfolio planning and delivery.
  • Use tools and technologies, including AI, to enhance research, analysis, editorial efficiency, and communication throughout the content lifecycle.

Strategic & Multi-Format Contribution

  • Collaborate with Growth Leads and Relationship Leads on book launch and marketing campaigns.
  • Enhance books with multi-format learning layers such as interactive labs, visual explainers, video walkthroughs, quizzes and code sandboxes.
  • Own and shape derived content formats such as newsletters, research explainers, live author AMAs, cohort-based sessions, and topical micro-events.
  • Own and optimise product information, positioning, and messaging across systems and channels, running structured experiments with variants and using channel-specific tooling (e.g., Amazon A+ pages) to improve discoverability and conversion.

Research & Market Awareness

  • Proactively research emerging technologies, version updates, and industry developments to keep products relevant and competitive.
  • Track trends across software languages, frameworks, architecture practices, and GenAI-influenced workflows.
  • Apply market intelligence and competitor benchmarking to strengthen positioning and feed insights into product strategy.
