NatureServe

NatureServe is a nonprofit organization that has spent nearly 50 years becoming the authoritative source for biodiversity data throughout North America. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we leverage the power of science, data, and technology to guide biodiversity conservation and stewardship across the continent.

We operate as the hub of an extensive network of 60 member programs in the United States and Canada, working alongside more than 1,000 scientific experts and conservation professionals. Together with our network, we maintain the most comprehensive dataset on over 100,000 species and 7,000 ecosystems, with more than 1 million mapped locations in our database. Our work focuses on answering critical conservation questions: what elements of biodiversity are most at risk, where they are found, and how they are doing.

NatureServe provides essential data, tools, and resources that inform conservation decisions at local, regional, and global scales. Our products and services, including NatureServe Explorer and InSite by NatureServe, serve over 900,000 annual users including NGOs, state agencies, federal land managers, and businesses who rely on our science-based information to make wise decisions about protecting the natural world.
