Technical Product Manager, Front End

McClatchy Media is in search of a Technical Product Manager to lead our front-end development group. In this position, you will lead a team responsible for maintaining McClatchy’s front-end systems and will collaborate closely with UI/UX designers to define and deliver new user-facing features. This role will require significant contributions to the product vision and strategy at McClatchy, with a significant emphasis on seamless and delightful experiences for McClatchy’s readers. This position will report to the Director of Technical Product Management.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between 115k - 135k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography, and local wage and hours laws.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Collaborate with business and technical teams to evaluate new initiatives, assess value and deliver the most important roadmap items first.
• Work closely with other technical product managers to scope projects and delve into the technical details of new functionalities across our platforms.
• Maintain updated technical documentation that outlines workflows, procedures, and style guides for consistency and knowledge sharing.
• Develop user, business, and technical requirements for development of new products and features.
• Identify opportunities for improvement, driving continuous enhancement of key processes and workflows.
• Support release execution as needed, including preparing detailed release notes.
• Lead and facilitate various development team ceremonies (status meetings, stand-ups, retrospectives, etc.).
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technical Product Management.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

• 1-3 years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Analyst, or Product Manager.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience with agile development and work management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Experience with design systems, component libraries, and responsive design principles.
• Experience in the media or publishing industry.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
• Technical background or understanding of software development processes.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong understanding of front-end development concepts (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks).
• Experience with Google AMP and other Google tools for monitoring site performance.
• Familiarity with SEO principles and strategies.
• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or other relevant certifications.
