RN Registry Abstractor - Cardiovascular Surgery Research

The primary responsibility of the RN abstractor is to assure that complete and accurate data are collected and maintained for assigned data registry(s). May work with all departments in the institution to ensure complete case abstraction. Coordinates details of data collection, data entry, data management, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. Works cooperatively with physicians and residents requesting information for studies, quality improvement projects and departmental planning.

RN, with a current MN license or license in state of residence/practice. Alternatively, a current license deemed acceptable by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing or the applicable state board in current state of residence/practice.

At least one year experience in data abstraction and data entry is preferred.

Ability to interpret the patient medical record is essential. Requires PC skills, both keyboarding and experience with computer applications.

Must have good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated ability to function independently, organize all aspects of a registry and keep activities on schedule.

Attention to accuracy detail is required.

Knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding preferred.

Ability to integrate appropriate software programs to prepare routine and statistical reports, narrative summaries and graphic representations of data desirable.

Current Minnesota RN license or RN license in state of residence/practice. Alternatively, a current license deemed acceptable by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing or an applicable state board in current state of residence/practice.

Preferred Qualification: Prior experience with data abstraction into the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Adult Cardiac Registry. Strong understanding of Cardiovascular Surgery Procedures and Terminology.
