In 2013, Matternet's founders identified a gap in urban logistics: goods moving through cities were slow, costly and carbon-intensive. They set out to invent an autonomous drone network that could deliver medical supplies and everyday items quickly, safely and with zero emissions. Today, Matternet positions itself as a leading developer of urban drone delivery systems for healthcare and commerce, combining hardware, software, and services to enable fast, low-cost and zero-emission delivery. The Mountain View, California–based company ships the Matternet M2 drone and Software Platform and operates its networks directly for customers or in partnership with logistics organizations, such as UPS. The company has evolved from pilot deployments to scalable city-wide networks, emphasizing regulatory compliance, interoperability and safety as core pillars of its mission to transform healthcare and commerce with autonomous drone networks.
