We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SQL Server and AWS Database Administrator to manage and optimize critical database environments in both cloud and on-premises infrastructures. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and security of SQL Server instances, PostgreSQL Aurora, and AWS RDS environments. You will lead database administration, migrations, performance tuning, and disaster recovery initiatives while providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will also automate processes, enforce best practices, and collaborate on strategic projects to support enterprise applications. This position offers a dynamic, remote-friendly work environment with opportunities to influence key technical decisions.
Accountabilities:
- Administer SQL Server 2019 instances on Windows Server 2019 in AWS and on-premises environments, including Always On Availability Groups.
- Manage and secure PostgreSQL Aurora and RDS instances, ensuring compliance with AWS and organizational security standards.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) tasks for data transfers between SQL Server and S3.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain database objects (tables, procedures, functions) and execute data migrations as needed.
- Perform regular backups, disaster recovery testing, performance monitoring, tuning, and replication maintenance.
- Create custom scripts, queries, and procedures to monitor database health, detect anomalies, and resolve blocking/deadlock issues.
- Provide 24x7 production support, participate in on-call rotations, and handle escalations effectively.
- Document processes, maintain knowledge transfer sessions, and support team development and automation initiatives.
Requirements
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 10+ years of IT experience, with 7+ years in database management and 5+ years in AWS database engineering.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server, AWS RDS, PostgreSQL Aurora, EC2, S3, and cloud infrastructure automation.
- Proficient in database performance tuning, backup/recovery, security administration, and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience with Terraform, Bitbucket version control, and AWS Database Migration Service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to senior stakeholders.
- Must be eligible to hold a Public Trust government-issued security clearance.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and collaboration skills, with attention to detail and process adherence.
