Senior Firmware Developer (Remote - India)

In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize firmware for next-generation automotive IoT devices, enabling real-time vehicle data collection, processing, and transmission. You will collaborate closely with hardware, backend, and data teams to create intelligent edge devices that power connected mobility and advanced analytics applications. The role offers ownership of firmware modules end-to-end, including bootloaders, OTA updates, and secure communications. You will guide a global team of developers, ensure cross-team collaboration, and maintain high standards for performance, reliability, and safety. This position is ideal for engineers passionate about embedded systems, automotive protocols, and innovative IoT solutions. Strong technical expertise, mentorship skills, and hands-on problem solving are essential for success in this role.

Accountabilities

• Architect, design, and implement firmware for ARM-based microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32) for automotive IoT devices.
• Develop and optimize CAN/CAN FD, OBD-II, and UDS communication stacks for vehicle data acquisition.
• Implement real-time data logging, edge analytics, and secure cloud transmission mechanisms.
• Design and maintain bootloaders, OTA update systems, and fail-safe firmware upgrade processes.
• Collaborate with hardware and backend teams for board bring-up, peripheral driver development, and cloud integration.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and ensure thorough technical documentation.
• Lead debugging, validation, and testing efforts to guarantee firmware reliability and field performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development with C/C++.
• Strong understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, OBD-II, UDS, ISO-TP).
• Hands-on experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.) and real-time system design.
• Familiarity with wireless connectivity modules (4G/LTE, BLE, GNSS/GPS).
• Experience with local database systems and integration with cloud databases for telemetry and logs.
• Knowledge of IoT data ingestion protocols (MQTT, HTTPS, REST).
• Strong debugging and testing skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools.
• Experience with firmware update systems (bootloaders, OTA, DFU) and secure data handling.
• Proficient in Git, CI/CD pipelines, and structured firmware release processes.
• Understanding of low-power design, flash memory management, and persistent data logging.
• Preferred: automotive-grade hardware design, functional safety standards (ISO 26262), diagnostic protocols (ISO 15765-3, ISO 14229), and automation scripting in Python or C#.
