This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior DB2 DBA in Alabama (USA).
As a Senior DB2 Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of critical DB2 z/OS databases in a high-performance, mission-critical environment. You will ensure data integrity, availability, and security while supporting complex analytics and enterprise workloads. This role involves collaborating with application teams, troubleshooting performance issues, and optimizing database configurations for efficiency. You will also oversee backups, disaster recovery, and database change management initiatives while mentoring junior DBAs and providing expert technical guidance. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced database technologies and contribute to scalable, secure enterprise data solutions.
Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain DB2 z/OS subsystems and Tier-1 mission-critical databases.
- Configure and upgrade DB2 systems, perform capacity planning, and monitor performance for multi-terabyte platforms.
- Support analytics workloads, data warehouses, data marts, and data lakes.
- Apply updates, patches, and hotfixes, and manage database migration from non-production to production environments.
- Develop and maintain data models, schemas, views, and tables to support application requirements.
- Implement database security mechanisms including encryption, auditing, and access controls.
- Develop, execute, and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Provide 24x7 production support and troubleshoot complex database, I/O, and SQL performance issues.
- Collaborate with IT teams and application developers to optimize system performance and resolve issues.
- Automate DBA tasks using scripting languages and workflow tools, and maintain operational documentation.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience as a DB2 z/OS Database Administrator; experience with DB2 LUW is a plus.
- Strong understanding of DB2 z/OS architecture, Netezza Performance Server, and mainframe operating systems.
- Proven experience in mission-critical, multi-terabyte environments and data warehouse concepts.
- Expertise in database security, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Proficiency in scripting (Shell, Python, Perl) and automation tools such as Control-M.
- Experience with monitoring and performance management tools (e.g., Nimsoft, Dynatrace, Datadog).
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- DB2 z/OS Database Administration certification preferred; healthcare industry experience is an advantage.
