The Program Coordinator, YSP, plays a vital role in empowering high-achieving students from urban school districts to reach their full academic and professional potential. This hands-on position involves mentoring students, guiding them through pre-collegiate preparation, and supporting families throughout the college admissions process. You will develop individualized academic plans, facilitate workshops, coordinate events, and collaborate with schools, community partners, and internal teams. The role requires strong organizational skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and stakeholders. By tracking academic progress and implementing program initiatives, the Program Coordinator ensures students are well-prepared for success in higher education and beyond.
Accountabilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group advisement for students in grades 8-12, including course planning, college guidance, and academic support.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with students and families, serving as a trusted mentor throughout high school and college transition.
- Develop, implement, and maintain curriculum for workshops that prepare students for college and careers.
- Plan and oversee events, field trips, award ceremonies, and special initiatives, coordinating both on-campus and off-campus activities.
- Collaborate with school administrators, local universities, and college access programs to expand opportunities for students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, course selections, attendance, and communications with families.
- Recruit, train, and supervise work-study student assistants to support program operations.
- Oversee program budgets and expenditures, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience; experience with low-income, urban students strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to promote college success and academic achievement for high school students.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Familiarity with technology tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Jamboard, Zoom, Canva, and LMS platforms.
- Commitment to student success and professional development, with a collaborative work style and strong work ethic.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check due to work with minors.
- Willingness to travel locally within the city and occasionally to campus locations, including overnight travel as required.
