This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Hardware Engineer in the United States.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Hardware Engineer to lead the design and development of high-performance electronic systems, including single board computers (SBCs), FPGAs, switches, and input/output cards. In this role, you will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments, driving complex hardware projects from concept to production. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and introduce best practices to improve product reliability, performance, and time-to-market. This role requires a strong background in mixed-signal, high-speed digital, and analog design, along with proficiency in high-density PCB design and embedded systems. You will contribute directly to mission-critical defense and aerospace solutions, applying innovation and technical expertise to meet challenging requirements.
Accountabilities
- Lead the design and development of 3U and 6U VPX SBC, FPGA, switch, and input/output cards up to 100 GHz data rates.
- Collaborate with project management, test engineering, operations, and cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements and project timelines.
- Define system and functional requirements, determine technical feasibility, and guide design solutions.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams on complex hardware architectures.
- Conduct and direct testing for new designs or modifications to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
- Develop, maintain, and document technical procedures, manuals, and design standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in DoD embedded systems hardware design; 10+ years preferred.
- Expertise in designing high-speed digital, mixed-signal, analog, and low-power high-current systems.
- Extensive knowledge of high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB design, including multi-layer, rigid, blind/buried vias, and uVia structures.
- Proficiency with Siemens Expedition DX Designer and Expedition PCB tools.
- Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.
- Self-starter with ability to navigate ambiguity and evolving requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly to peers and leadership.
- US Citizenship required; active DoD Security Clearance preferred.
