This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, backend software engineering, and mission-critical deployments. You will embed with strategic customers, acting as a technical partner to deliver Generative AI systems that operate across cloud, on-prem, and edge/air-gapped environments. The position emphasizes rapid, secure, and reliable deployment of advanced software to solve complex challenges. You will work hands-on with AI/LLM technologies, data pipelines, APIs, and integrations, while shaping reusable patterns and frameworks for future deployments. This is a highly visible, customer-facing role requiring strong technical leadership, problem-solving in ambiguous environments, and direct contribution to operational impact. Travel of up to 25% may be required, with flexibility depending on personal preferences.
Accountabilities:
- Embed with customers to understand requirements, architect solutions, and ensure adoption of AI-driven systems.
- Design, build, deploy, and operate agentic Generative AI systems, including APIs, ETL pipelines, integration layers, and Retrieval Augmented Generation solutions.
- Work across cloud, on-prem, and tactical edge/air-gapped environments to ensure software operates where needed.
- Prototype and implement solutions using core product frameworks, bringing field insights to inform continuous improvement.
- Lead delivery planning: define roadmaps, prioritize work, balance speed, quality, and scope, and coordinate across teams and stakeholders.
- Codify reusable patterns, internal frameworks, playbooks, and tools for faster and safer future deployments.
- Act as the technical liaison to customer leadership, communicating complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience in backend or full-stack development, ideally in government, public sector, or high-assurance environments.
- Strong backend engineering skills with production-grade Python or TypeScript code, and experience with services, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations.
- Familiarity with LLMs or Generative AI systems, including context engineering and understanding how AI behavior impacts product or mission outcomes.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and dynamic settings, define scope, make trade-offs, remove blockers, and deliver under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and customer stakeholders.
- Mission-oriented mindset with a commitment to supporting defense and national security objectives.
- U.S. Citizenship required; active TS/SCI clearance or eligibility strongly preferred.
Nice to Have:
- Experience deploying applications on Kubernetes in secure or air-gapped environments.
- Knowledge of information retrieval fundamentals, including keyword/vector-based search, document parsing, reranking, and SQL/NoSQL search engines.
- Experience with LLM evaluation, open-source LLM/SLM models (e.g., Llama3, Mixtral), inference frameworks, fine-tuning, and structured outputs.
