Data Engineer / Sr Data Engineer (GCP, BigQuery)

This role offers the opportunity to design, build, and optimize cloud-based data solutions that power business intelligence and advanced analytics. The Data Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement scalable ETL pipelines, manage cloud-based data warehouses, and enhance BI tools like Looker. Candidates will operate in a fast-paced, agile environment, leveraging GCP services, SQL, Python, and automation tools to ensure high-quality, reliable data products. Accountabilities

The Data Engineer / Senior Data Engineer will:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using GCP services such as BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow.
• Automate deployment and configuration using Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes.
• Develop and optimize Looker dashboards, queries, and derived tables to ensure performance and reliability.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data lake operations and cloud resources.
• Build efficient data models to support reporting and analytics needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, reliable data products.
• Write complex SQL queries and implement robust ETL processes for large datasets.
• Senior-level team members additionally: assess technical risks and opportunities, optimize complex SQL and ETL workflows, enhance data lake operations, and guide best practices for team processes and documentation.

Requirements

Candidates should possess:

• Data Engineer: 3+ years of experience with Google BigQuery and cloud-based data engineering.
• Senior Data Engineer: 5+ additional years of experience with BigQuery and advanced data warehousing concepts.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and scripting languages (Bash; Go is a plus).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (GitHub, Jenkins), and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Familiarity with cloud-native services: GCP, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Cloud Functions, IAM.
• Experience managing and optimizing Looker environments, including dashboards, metrics, and LookML code.
• Knowledge of data modeling, ETL best practices, and data lake architecture.
• Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, CIS, or equivalent experience.
