Senior Strategic Account Manager, Madrid (Spain)
The Senior Territory Account Manager at Illumina is responsible for establishing and nurturing strong relationships with key clients, recognizing opportunities for expansion, and working in conjunction with internal teams to fulfill client requirements.
As a Strategic Account Manager, your responsibility is to maintain and grow relationships with our key clients. Your role is crucial in ensuring client satisfaction, driving revenue growth, and identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling. This position demands exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, as well as a deep understanding of the industry and our clients’ businesses.
Please note that this is a field-based position where you are required to be based in Madrid, Spain. The role requires a valid driving license and you will be required to travel up to 50% for the role. It is essential for the role that the successful candidate has fluent/native English and Spanish language skills.

Preferred Experiential Background:
- Building a business map of the organizational structure, key operating units and key influencers, clinicians, and other decision makers .
- Facilitate communication and relationship building between Illumina and key stakeholders.
- Developing and implementing tailored account plans.
- Responsible for ensuring budgeted annual sales and profit objectives are met for the district within designated territories.
- Identifying key customer internal business initiatives to ensure business growth synergy with matching Illumina opportunities.
- Acting as a single point of reference for all business initiatives
- Provide regular and accurate sales forecast & updates of sales pipeline
- Build relationships at all levels of the customer organization. Facilitate communication and relationship building between Illumina and client executives.
- Lead the account team to plan and organize activities to ensure efficient and effective sales support, field service, and technical and applications support are provided.
- Understand the competitive dynamics within the account and lead development and implementation of strategies and tactics that best position Illumina technology and products.
- Provide Illumina management with regular feedback on account status and key initiatives.
- Provide strategic account management best practice visibility and leadership internally as appropriate.
Role Requirements:
- Consideraexperience in managing account teams without direct reporting
- Demonstrable experience in Life Science or Diagnostics sales
- Record of working in a strategic account management role
- Strong technical background in molecular biology or genomics is required
- Well-developed professional and strategic sales skills with proven ability to develop and grow complex key accounts through networking at the C-levels of the customer organization and below
- Excellent listening, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong negotiation skills including high high value capital equipment
- Detail and service-oriented individual.
- Strong knowledge of the industry and the ability to understand clients' business objectives and challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
- Ability to travel for client meetings and industry events as required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.
- Proven ability to meet and exceed sales targets.
BA/BS or MS or equivalent degree in Life Sciences
Fluent in English and Spanish. Portuguese will be also positively evaluated.
