Position Summary:

The Field Bioinformatics Support Scientist (Bioinformatics 1) role provides technical direction and support to our Next generation Sequencing customers on Illumina Software & Analysis Products. The role is highly cross functional and works closely with our Field Application Scientists, Field Service Engineers, and Sales.

This role will be supporting customers in Latin America.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical mastery of Illumina’s technology and informatics portfolio
  • Focused support team dedicated to assisting with bioinformatics needs to drive throughput and customer satisfaction
  • Professionally, efficiently, troubleshoot and resolve bioinformatics questions by phone and email for internal and external customers
  • Collaborate within a team of support scientists to find optimal solutions to customers’ complex bioinformatics challenges
  • Assist customers with the design and interpretation of Next Generation Sequencing experiments and analysis
  • Log and manage customer issues using Illumina’s issue-tracking database
  • Join sales and other teams to meet with a customer who has potential bioinformatics needs, understand their objectives, and propose solutions and timelines
  • Meet with field teams in Latin America and USA to discuss new opportunities to help customers with their analysis needs

Position Desirables:

  • Experience to offer services for simple to complex data analysis by leveraging Illumina software expertise and skillsets across bioinformatics, data science, and systems integration
  • Collaborate with colleagues from various departments to find out what’s happening in their groups and understand what projects they are working on
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and skills a must
  • Willing to travel up to 70%

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Bachelors with relevant experience, Master’s or PhD in bioinformatics plus 1 year relevant experience in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics or related field
  • Experience in genetic interpretation is desirable
  • You must be fluent in English and Spanish
  • Experience with Illumina informatic products such as Emedgene and Connected Insights is a plus
