Carrier Operations Coordinator – Booking Trucks, Securing Drivers, and Negotiating Rates
We are seeking a Carrier Operations Coordinator to support our growing freight brokerage by managing the carrier side of daily operations. This role focuses on booking freight, securing reliable trucks and trusted drivers, negotiating competitive rates, and ensuring smooth execution from pickup through delivery.
This position is ideal for someone who understands carrier operations, communicates effectively with drivers and dispatchers, and thrives in a fast‑paced logistics environment.
Role Overview
As a Carrier Operations Coordinator, you will work closely with our brokerage team to ensure every load is covered with the right carrier at the right price. You will source capacity, negotiate rates, build relationships with trusted carriers, and monitor shipments through completion.
You will utilize industry-leading platforms including AscendTMS, DAT, Truckstop, HubSpot, and Microsoft-based tools to streamline workflows and maintain accurate load and carrier data.
This is a 1099 independent contractor role with performance-based earning potential.
Key Responsibilities
Carrier Sourcing & BookingSecure trucks for available loads using DAT, Truckstop, internal carrier networks, and relationship-based outreach.
Build and maintain a network of trusted, reliable carriers and drivers.
Match freight requirements with appropriate equipment types (dry van, reefer, flatbed, hotshot, etc.).
Verify carrier credentials, safety ratings, insurance, and FMCSA compliance.
Secure trucks for available loads using DAT, Truckstop, internal carrier networks, and relationship-based outreach.
Build and maintain a network of trusted, reliable carriers and drivers.

Rate Negotiation & Load CoordinationNegotiate competitive rates with carriers while protecting margin and service quality.
Communicate load details clearly and professionally to dispatchers and drivers.
Confirm appointments, transit expectations, and any special requirements.
Track shipments from pickup to delivery and provide timely updates to the brokerage team.

Operational SupportMaintain accurate load, carrier, and communication data within TMS and CRM systems.
Assist with check calls, POD collection, and issue resolution.
Support brokers in managing overflow freight and high-volume periods.
Strengthen carrier relationships to ensure consistent, repeat capacity.

Requirements
To be considered for this role, all candidates must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
- Experience incarrier sales, dispatching, or freight brokerage operations.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with DAT, Truckstop, or similar load boards.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and operate independently in a remote environment.
- Understanding of FMCSA compliance and carrier vetting processes.
Technology, Equipment & Workspace Requirements
- Must provide and maintain your own business phone line (mobile or VoIP) for shipper and carrier communications
- Reliable high-speed internet connection required
- Personal computer or laptop required (capable of running modern web-based TMS, CRM, and Microsoft applications)
- Dedicated home office or professional workspace required suitable for confidential customer and carrier communications
AI & Systems Requirements (Mandatory)- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Planner, SharePoint, and OneNote
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Copilot and AI-assisted workflows
- Working experience using or willingness to actively use:
- ChatGPT
- Claude AI
- Familiarity with Apollo and/or Clay for prospecting and data enrichment preferred
- Willingness to adopt AI-driven processes for sales, operations, and communication

- Responsible for own taxes, insurance, equipment, and business expenses as a 1099 independent contractor
