About the Work:

As VP, General Counsel, you will be primarily responsible for legal support of all matters pertaining to the company’s franchise operations, including compliance with franchise laws, counseling the franchise operations team, maintaining contracts and policies, and mitigating vicarious liability. You will work directly with a variety of departments across the company, serving as lead counsel on strategic projects, providing day-to-day advice, and resolving issues that arise across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic oversight and ongoing legal counsel and guidance to the Company in the areas of risk management, vicarious liability mitigation, compliance, and litigation
  • Coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders, including network operations, product, engineering, business development, marketing, and policy teams
  • Remaining up-to-date on relevant industry standards and laws
  • Ensuring the Home Instead Franchise Disclosure Document is up to date and compliant with state and federal law. Oversee the registration process and state exemption filings
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts
  • Provide strategic leadership and participate in day to day decision making as necessary for the Franchise Standards department, which is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Home Instead brand, including (1) developing and evolving franchise standards for the global franchise network; (2) ensuring that minimum operational standards are being met by all global franchise offices; (3) ensuring that all direct franchisees and International Franchise Partners (IFPs) are operating within the boundaries of the letter and spirit of their franchise agreements or master franchise agreements (MFAs); (4) assisting direct franchisees and IFP’s by inspiring best practices among all franchise offices; (5) responsibility for incident management and crisis communication for Home Instead, Inc., its affiliated entities, and the global franchise network.

Requirements

  • Strong academic credentials
  • 10+ years of legal experience as franchise counsel
  • Health care, services and/or privacy experience a plus
  • Bar admission in good standing required

Our range reflects the hiring range for this position. We use national average to determine pay as we are a remote first company. Individual pay is based on a number of factors including qualifications, skills, experience, education, and training.

Base pay is just a part of our total rewards program. Honor offers equity and 401K with up to a 4% match. We provide medical, dental and vision coverage including zero cost plans for employees. Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability and Life Insurance are fully employer paid with a voluntary additional Life Insurance option.
