The Opportunity

As aField Service Engineer – Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), you’ll be a key player in our High Voltage Services team, leading the installation, commissioning, and servicing of GIS systems across North America.
This role places you at the center of high-impact projects, working with voltages from 69kV to 800kV. You’ll represent Hitachi Energy on-site, collaborating with contractors, suppliers, and customers to bring complex systems online safely and effectively. Whether you're inspecting installations, leading crews, or solving technical challenges, your work will directly support the modernization and resilience of the power grid. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus contingent upon: (1) successful completion of hiring process, (2) completion of onboarding requirements, and (3) execution of sign-on bonus agreement with terms and conditions.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Lead technical field assignments and make critical decisions
Direct the work of field teams and subcontractors
Manage productivity to ensure timely project completion
Ensure adherence to drawings, specifications, and quality standards
Promote safe practices and meet health, safety, and environmental requirements
Supervise the installation and commissioning of high-voltage GIS substations
Conduct frequent inspections and document pertinent information
Plan, schedule, and lead on-site weekly progress meetings
Perform and document field testing on equipment
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines
Your Background
College or university diploma/degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
Minimum of 10 years of experience in service or construction management with high-voltage equipment
Hands-on experience in substation construction, servicing, and commissioning
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitudes
Proven leadership experience in coordinating and leading crews
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and MS Project
Physical ability to work on-site, including climbing and lifting
Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
