Founded in 1946 by the late Mr. C K Somany, Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Limited (HNGIL) embarked on a pioneering journey by commissioning India's first fully automated glass manufacturing plant at Rishra, near Kolkata. This marked the beginning of an era for HNGIL, as it steadily grew to become a key player in India's container glass industry. The company's original name was Hindustan National Glass Manufacturing Company Limited, which was later changed to its current name on November 22, 1971. Over the decades, HNGIL has expanded its footprint across India, establishing manufacturing facilities in strategic locations such as Bahadurgarh, Neemrana, Nashik, Rishikesh, Naidupeta, and Puducherry. This pan-India presence has enabled the company to capture a significant share of the domestic market.

HNGIL's journey has been characterized by a commitment to providing complete packaging solutions, catering to a diverse range of industries including pharmaceuticals, liquor, beer, beverages, cosmetics, and processed foods. The company has built a reputation for manufacturing a wide variety of glass containers and has served a prestigious clientele that includes well-known names like Nestle, Dabur, Bacardi, Pfizer, Cipla, GlaxoSmithKline, ITC, Sun Pharma, Diageo, Pepsi, Glenmark, and Himalaya. Beyond the Indian borders, HNGIL has also cultivated an increasingly satisfied client base in more than 23 countries. In 2006, the HNG Group diversified its business by establishing HNG Float Glass Limited in Halol, Gujarat, to manufacture various types of float glass. Despite facing challenges, including a period where it reportedly neared bankruptcy in 2018 and subsequently underwent a Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) starting in October 2021, HNGIL continues to be a significant name in the glass manufacturing sector. The company has focused on enhancing its technological capabilities, including establishing a state-of-the-art Central Product and Mould Design Studio to cater to personalization requirements with rapid prototypes.
