Summary of This Role

The Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer will play a key role in enabling Global Payments’ adoptions of Cloud-based services in order to maintain its leading position as an innovative, software-driven payments provider.

As well as being responsible for the development and implementation of our Cloud baseline roadmaps, the role holder will form a deep understanding of the ‘big picture’ of GPN cloud baseline and use that knowledge as a cloud technology and transformation champion, providing education, mentoring, and hands on engineering to a range of internal teams, as well as providing guidance to other external entities when necessary.

The role holder will have expert knowledge of cloud best practice for securing, operating and maintaining cloud workloads. The role holder will be expected to perform hands-on with code, configurations and designs, acting as a role model to the technical teams you work with.

This role provides technical direction and engineering on Cloud baseline services, constantly reviews new provider capabilities and industry direction to enhance GPNs cloud baseline so it continues to support business objectives by providing a secure, flexible and easily consumable framework for business units to use. Communicating and negotiating with stakeholders to determine scope and budget of work activities which advance business objectives and client needs. Builds and maintains strong customer relationships.

What Part Will You Play?

  • At all times demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, understanding and meeting customer requirements, team member learning and maintaining excellent peer relationships.

  • Coordinates and/or provides technical direction and hands on support to multiple work teams regarding multiple work components for a product, platform, or project solving complex or unique application issues. Work initiatives include fully authorizing and endorsing solution design, problem resolution and management, application maintenance, project requests and system enhancements. Work initiatives pose significant risk to the organization regarding impacts to other critical work streams, and involve complex system integration efforts and require deep specialization of knowledge of multiple components.

  • Is the primary technical escalation point of contact for the management of project systems issues that require unique knowledge and specialized experience with multiple components. Exercises independent judgement to identify application improvements to address issue resolution.

  • Assumes project management role and/or Subject Matter Expert using broad expertise, unique knowledge, and deep and varied specialized skills to guide the team or multiple work teams to solution approaches, to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals, resolve issues and achieve application improvements in creative and effective ways.

  • Subject Matter Expert in infrastructure, development, operations, security and quality assurance, with proven experience with DevOps and Agile practices.

  • Mentor and coach other DevOps engineers throughout the company and seek to continually improve processes companywide.

  • Develop and deliver technical training from beginner to advanced levels covering cloud technologies, DevOps processes and tooling.

  • Identify and champion common solutions and drive forward a cloud agnostic approach to GPN cloud baseline capabilities.

  • Work with technical product owners to develop solutions to meet business requirements.

  • Relentlessly drive an automation first approach to delivery, identify automation improvements to meet company security, operational and risk requirements.

  • Join agile platform teams when required to assist in the coordination and/or delivery of complex or high priority technical solutions.

  • Leads and participates in internal and client facing meetings, joint venture discussions, vendor partnerships, client and internal development team working solutions to determine solution approaches.

  • Interacts with a diverse range of leaders, including senior management or possibly executive leadership and clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Relevant Experience or Degree in: IT, Computer Science, MIS or Business or equivalent work experience, such as relevant technical background and/or work product/SME knowledge in lieu of a degree.

  • Typically Minimum 5+ Years Relevant Exp.

  • GCP Cloud Computing, DevOps technologies, Coding, Designing and Developing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in Cloud computing and associated technologies, in particular GCP.

  • Relevant cloud security certifications.

  • Technical Knowledge

    • GCP essential

    • Current understanding of best practices for operating in Cloud environments.

    • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures.

    • Current understanding of identity management and SSO mechanisms (SAML, OAuth).

    • Full stack experience in an Agile environment.

    • Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Cloudformation)

    • CI/CD GitOps experience (Jenkins, Policy-as-Code)

    • Operating Systems: Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL/Linux, Microsoft Windows

    • Languages: Python, Groovy, HCL, json, yaml, rego, Powershell, Shell Script

  • The ability to lead with influence and work collaboratively in a global company.

  • Spoken and written English communication skills.
