We are the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a global nonprofit organization that has been at the forefront of tackling climate change since our inception in 1967. Founded by a group of scientists and a lawyer on Long Island, New York, we initially focused on the campaign to save the osprey from the toxic pesticide DDT. Through our advocacy and the application of scientific evidence, we successfully helped get DDT banned in the United States. Over the years, our mission has evolved, yet our commitment to creating bold environmental solutions remains the same. Today, we are recognized as one of the world’s leading environmental organizations, dedicated to cutting climate pollution and strengthening the vibrancy and resilience of the natural world.

Our efforts include fostering a clean energy transition, advocating for sustainable food systems, and pushing for policy changes that prioritize public health and ecological integrity. With more than 3.5 million members, supporters, and activists globally, we harness the collective power of communities to drive lasting and meaningful change.
