Founded in Sweden in 2014 by Karim Engelmark Cassimjee, Robin Chatterjee, and Samuel Hargestam, EnginZyme began with the challenge of making industrial chemical production more sustainable without sacrificing cost, scalability, or performance. The founders saw that conventional manufacturing often depends on scarce metals, energy-intensive processes, and chemistry that creates substantial waste. They set out to combine biological catalysis with industrial process engineering, creating a cell-free platform that uses enzymes to transform renewable feedstocks into valuable chemicals and ingredients.

EnginZyme developed its patented EziG enzyme-immobilisation technology to create stable, reusable biocatalysts that can operate in multi-step reactions and continuous-flow systems. The company combines enzyme engineering, biocatalysis, process design, automation, machine learning, and bioprocessing scale-up to help manufacturers improve existing infrastructure and develop more resource-efficient production methods. Its solutions target applications spanning personal care ingredients, food and nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial chemicals. Today, EnginZyme offers off-the-shelf immobilised enzyme products alongside tailored services covering feasibility studies, process design, pilot-scale validation, and technology transfer, supporting the shift from fossil-based manufacturing toward greener, cleaner production.
