This Environmental Data Analyst opportunity is for a flexible and self-motivated individual that is willing to learn and grow as part of a team while providing data management and analysis support for projects across many service areas, including environmental site assessments, remediation, management system development, compliance and sustainability. Your primary responsibilities in this position will include producing high-quality, data-focused deliverables (tables, figures, etc.) and supporting centralized environmental data management for both routine and complex projects across Australia and New Zealand. Some support with projects for the United States will also be required.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assisting in the management of EHS Support’s centralised environmental data warehouse.
- Managing and organizing laboratory, field, spatial and geological data to ensure quality and consistency.
- Actively communicating and coordinating with project managers, laboratories, and/or other team members to acquire data packages of varying formats to be imported to a centralized database system.
- Obtaining, cleaning, reviewing, synthesizing, and visualising environmental data in an organised and concise manner.
- Running, modifying, and developing reports and queries to ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Developing clear, technically accurate data visualization work products to support analysis and presentation of multiple types of datasets.
- Ensuring standards of data quality and accuracy are met for each project.
- Generating and documenting reproducible scripts and tools to improve data cleaning and analysis processes.
- Assisting with development of standards and procedures for data management process improvements.
- Supporting the preparation of high-quality technical deliverables, figures, models, reports, and other work products as required.
- Coordinating with internal and external clients to provide data management and analysis solutions.
- Enhancing the technical capabilities of the team by expanding the knowledge base, improving internal processes, and developing innovative technical approaches.
Qualifications/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, environmental science, geography, GIS, data management, or other data related field.
- 2+ years of experience managing and analysing environmental datasets.
- Demonstrated understanding of relational database concepts and principles.
- Experience maintaining and querying data using EarthSoft’s EQuIS, EarthScience Information Systems’ ESdat, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access and/or another database platform.
- Experience analysing environmental data, including robust understanding of Microsoft Excel.
- Intermediate programming experience (e.g., Python, R); experience with R is preferred.
- Ability to extract and analyse data from large data sources with differing structures.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail and data quality.
- Ability to think strategically and conceptually about environmental data and develop solutions to support project objectives.
- Willingness to learn and gain technical expertise by working on multiple projects and with experts in technical areas of practice.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to communicate proactively, efficiently, and directly with team members.
