Job Description

Step into a role where your engineering expertise will help shape the future of low-carbon energy in the UK. As a Commissioning Engineer at Hinkley Point C, you’ll be at the heart of one of Europe’s most ambitious infrastructure projects—ensuring systems are tested, safe, and ready to power millions of homes.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in preparing and delivering Electrical commissioning documentation, supervising contractors on-site, and analysing test results to ensure systems meet the highest safety and performance standards. You’ll be supported with training and development to grow your technical knowledge and leadership skills, enabling you to review complex documentation and lead commissioning activities with confidence.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is from £55,000 per annum, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a dedicated team of engineers and technicians, each responsible for commissioning specific systems within HPC. Reporting to a Commissioning Manager, you’ll develop and deliver test specifications, safety documentation, and detailed commissioning plans.

On site, you’ll supervise contractor teams as they carry out commissioning tests, ensuring all activities meet nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety standards. Your technical insight will be key in analysing test results, resolving non-conformances, and supporting the project’s broader milestones.

This is a hands-on role where your decisions and leadership will directly impact the safe and timely delivery of a nationally significant energy project. You’ll be empowered to drive excellence and innovation in every stage of the commissioning process.

Who You Are

You bring a strong technical foundation in industrial, power generation, or electrical engineering, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects in safety-conscious environments. Your ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively makes you a trusted team member and leader.

Ideally, you have experience commissioning complex electrical systems and may have led technical teams. Familiarity with nuclear power plant systems, safety case processes, and project delivery frameworks will be advantageous. If you speak French or have worked in nuclear environments before, that’s a bonus, but not essential.

You hold a degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering discipline and are a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or working towards it. You’re comfortable navigating regulatory environments and are ready to take on a role where your expertise will help shape the UK’s energy future.
