In 1965, Carbery began as a dairy co-operative in West Cork, Ireland, founded by local farmers who recognized the value of pooling their resources to process and market milk collectively. For over 50 years, the company has been making high-quality cheese using premium grass-fed cow's milk from family-owned farms in West Cork, building a reputation for excellence in dairy production.

Today, Carbery Group has evolved into a leading global manufacturer of specialty and nutritional dairy ingredients, flavours, and award-winning cheeses. The company remains uniquely structured as a co-operative, 100% owned by four Irish milk co-operatives based in West Cork, which are in turn owned by nearly 1,200 farmer shareholders who supply milk to the Ballineen facility. This farmer-owned model ensures a direct connection between sustainable farming practices and global food production.

With operations spanning 11 facilities across 8 countries and products reaching customers in over 50 markets worldwide, Carbery Group operates through three specialist divisions: Dairy (producing natural cheddar, mozzarella, and specialty cheeses), Nutrition (developing advanced whey proteins for infant formula, sports nutrition, and clinical nutrition), and Taste (creating flavour solutions under the Synergy brand).
