As an industry-leading ecommerce platform, BigCommerce has earned recognition for its powerful performance, rapid growth, unique workplace culture and commitment to the community. We are passionate about growing our employee’s careers and providing them an incredible and meaningful experience that gives them the opportunity to do the best work of their careers.

What we do:

We are an open SaaS ecommerce platform that combines the best of SaaS and API-enabled openness giving brands the power and flexibility to deliver high converting shopping experiences across B2C, B2B and hybrid B2C+B2B. The platform delivers all of the tools to efficiently run a highly scalable and fast growing ecommerce business, and it’s supported by a robust and vibrant ecosystem of agency and technology partners.

We are looking for a Director of Product Marketing, which is a new, strategic role, reporting directly to the chief product officer, that is responsible for the development and execution of the platform’s product marketing strategy, including product launches and product positioning & messaging to drive awareness, retention, adoption and competitive differentiation. As well, you will lead and inspire a small team of product marketers. The ideal candidate will possess extensive product marketing experience with a proven track record of successfully launching SaaS products that business customers and partners love and adopt.

What you’ll do:

  • Market Intelligence: Dive deep into market research to uncover the needs and preferences of our target audience. Analyze demographics, behaviors, trends, and competitors to shape our product strategy
  • Product Positioning and Messaging: Develop innovative positioning strategies to set our products apart from the competition and create compelling messaging that resonates with our audience
  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Collaborate with the marketing team to craft and execute dynamic go-to-market strategies. You'll determine the best channels, pricing strategies, and promotional tactics for successful product launches
  • Impact & Effectiveness: Define and report on the impact and measurement of product marketing initiatives
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with product development, sales, and marketing teams to ensure seamless alignment and cohesive strategies
  • Sales Enablement: Equip our sales teams with the tools, training, and collateral they need to excel. Create impactful sales presentations, product guides, and competitive analyses
  • Customer Feedback and Insights: Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform future product development and marketing strategies. Use data to gain insights into user behavior and preferences
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Monitor product performance throughout its lifecycle. Identify growth opportunities and adjust marketing strategies to maximize product success
  • Thought Leadership: Act as the primary thought leader for the platform, including speaking engagements and content creation (white papers, product briefs, technology write-ups) that support the buyer’s journey
  • Competitive Intelligence: Understand the competitive landscape, be an expert on our competition and how they are positioned and priced
  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a small team of product marketing managers

Who you are:

  • Depending on the size and type of teams/companies you’ve worked at in the past, that could translate to anywhere from 10-12+ years’ experience in hands-on product marketing roles
  • You have outstanding communication skills and extraordinary writing ability to craft impactful content
  • You have deep experience creating messaging and engaging content that translates product scenarios that are aligned to customer needs
  • You have strong executive communication, storytelling skills, and the ability to translate complex ideas into simple customer stories
  • You have a proven track record of successfully launching products - ideally SaaS platform products, including a strong ability to drive and coordinate efforts across teams
  • You have strong ROI-tracking skills, including the ability to prove what is – or isn’t – working with product programs
  • You’ve proven you have the ability to tackle ambiguous problems and break them down into well-scoped solutions
  • You have a willingness to flex between strategic and tactical/execution responsibilities
  • You’ve demonstrated that you can build and lead high performing product marketing teams that have delivered products that lots of customers use and love
  • You’re a high energy, drive-for-results and big picture thinker that inspires your teams
  • You’ve built relationships, and you’re great at communicating and negotiating with cross-functional teams. You are a powerful influencer, and people enjoy working with you even if they might disagree with you
  • You anchor your decisions in strategy and defend them with data
  • You have a bias for action and to make things happen
  • You have deep customer curiosity which leads you to having a deep understanding of how their businesses work, their pain points and how they use the product
  • You have genuine product curiosity that leads to a strong understanding of the ecommerce space and the BigCommerce platform
  • You value market research and, when it comes to the competition, you have your finger on the pulse
  • You understand that human behavior is complex and changing behaviors is a lot harder than building features and technology
  • Ideally, you’re plugged into the worldwide commerce ecosystem of 3rd party developers and solutions. You speak their language and have their respect
