About Berghof Foundation

We are an independent, non-governmental, and non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people in conflict in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace. Founded in 1971 by Georg Zundel at the height of the Cold War, we have spent over 50 years working to transform violent conflict and foster peaceful coexistence. Our mission is rooted in the belief that while conflict is inevitable, violence is not. We strive to create space for conflict transformation by bringing people together, enabling them to find ways to live peacefully, and supporting their efforts to address the grievances that divide them.

Our work is grounded in a unique approach that combines practice, learning, and research. We engage with a wide range of actors, including state and non-state entities, to support dialogue, mediation, and negotiation processes. From our headquarters in Berlin and our offices in places like Beirut and Mogadishu, we work in various regions and societies, addressing conflicts that are both new and entrenched. We are committed to the principles of inclusivity, ownership, and multi-partiality, ensuring that our support is tailored to the specific needs of the communities we serve. Whether through peace education, mediation support, or transitional justice, we are passionate about building a world where conflicts are transformed into opportunities for positive change.
