Summary:

The Staff Data Engineer role is part of the Bamboo Health Engineering Team. You would serve as a lead engineer responsible for building and supporting Data Warehousing and reporting functions. As, Staff Data Engineer, you will be hands-on with PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kubernetes, and other AWS technologies. You will be working within a team that builds, designs, and supports cloud based ETL, containerized solutions and data warehouses that enable data reporting, analytics, and data science. Our team continuously seeks opportunities to automate, apply new AWS products and features, and strive for technological modernization. You will partner with other Engineering team members, Architects, Data Scientists, Analysts, and other Bamboo Health professionals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop, debug and support ETL processes utilizing AWS services
  • Lead ideation and development of data models used for data science and analytics
  • Meet the delivery expectations of the Agile Project Management methodology
  • Maintain and optimize reports and extracts that serve as lifesaving information sources to customers
  • Create clear and concise documentation regarding technical solutions, while sharing knowledge and documentation with teammates via “Lunch and Learns”
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to deliver modern data products
  • Explore opportunities to enhance workflows through AI or automation tools (e.g., document summarization, task routing, or data parsing).
  • Identify repetitive tasks and partner with team leads to implement scalable automation solutions.

What Success Looks Like…

In 3 months…

  • Become familiar with the architecture and processes of Bamboo Health services, especially Data Warehouses and reporting products.
  • Understand the roadmap of Data Engineering projects and how your efforts contribute.
  • Ship code to contribute fixes and improvements to our data pipelines.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and hotfix of ETL and reporting issues/outages.
  • Identify at least one opportunity in your role to pilot or apply AI or automation (e.g., streamlining a task, summarizing data, generating content)

In 6 months…

  • Optimize our Kubernetes deployments and other operational processes with emphasis on ETL and reporting.
  • Develop complex queries, automation through AWS infrastructure and analytics workflows.
  • Understand the securities strategies, grant, and remove access to Data Engineering systems and reports, and follow AWS Infrastructure access patterns needed for new deployments.
  • Mentor others and help shape the analytics roadmap for scalability, innovation and best practices.

In 12 months…

  • Represent Data Engineering in new ETL and data reporting discussions providing technical solution recommendations within project roadmaps.
  • Contribute novel coding patterns and capabilities from emerging API’s and SDK’s.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Analytics, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years total software and relational database development experience
  • 3+ years with a strong demonstrated ability to develop and maintain ETL solutions, ideally using Python and various Application Programming Interfaces (API)
  • 3+ years’ experience with AWS Cloud Solutions/Services
  • Experience working in an Agile environment include using ticketing software such as JIRA
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities
  • Hands on experience maintaining databases on Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle relational database systems.
  • Experience with software development using Python, Ruby, or other modern scripting languages, ideally in container solutions such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Starburst, AWS Glue.
  • Healthcare experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Comfort using or learning AI-supported tools (e.g., ChatGPT, CoPilot, or role-specific tools) to improve daily workflows.
  • A forward-thinking, curious mindset with an openness to experimenting with new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and creativity in designing solutions.
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth, and rapidly evolving environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment, ensuring high-quality virtual interactions with minimal distractions.
  • The ability to travel periodically for work.
