The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a Technical Marketing Engineer to provide technical expertise to sales representatives, distributors and customers during the sales process. They will perform technical sales support at customer sites or on a multiple-site basis, resolve technical product/service issues, and assist customers during the sales process to maximize the benefits derived from the organization's products and/or services.
The Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) will contribute their deep technical knowledge and market understanding to support the commercial team and our customers. TMEs develop a deep understanding of NuSil products & end-use markets to guide NuSil’s growth strategy in the Biomaterials (BM) and Advanced Technology (AT) segments. They support marketing campaigns and act as the technical face of the business at trade shows/conferences and customers.
This role will be a full-time remote/virtual position. Must be able to travel up to 50%.
This is a field-based position and candidate can be located anywhere within the US.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
- B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
Experience:
- B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
- 5+ years of silicone (industry) experience preferred.
- 3+ years in customer facing technical role preferred.
- Experience with fabrication & test methods employed in silicone component manufacture.
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment.
- Ability to travel ~50% of the time.
- Direct experience with the design, development, manufacture, testing and regulatory requirements associated with silicone product implementation & qualification in Biomaterials and Advanced Technology industries preferred.
- 5 years of direct technical customer support/service experience and/or application development experience preferred.
- Deep technical knowledge of the chemistry and materials science of silicone products preferred.
- Develop in-depth understanding of the NuSil product portfolio and their use in customer applications to make sound product recommendations of reproducible products.
- Broad understanding of high purity silicone markets (competitors, end-users and regulatory bodies) serving Biomaterials and Advanced Technology (space, aerospace & defense, electronics and engineering) sectors.
- Business Acumen: solid understanding of markets and competition, value propositions, business cases, economics-based decision making and basic business financial terms.
- Extensive knowledge of customer fabrication processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, dip coating, spray coating, sheeting, device assembly, etc.), troubleshooting and how silicones can be used in end-use markets.
- Ability to read and understand patents, analyze trends and distill out key information for market analysis.
- Organization & Project management skills.
- Proactive self-starter able to work in a dynamic environment.
How you will thrive and create an impact:
- Work collaboratively with the NuSil Commercial team to generate new business opportunities and identify mutually beneficial projects with customers via market research, networking and promotion of NuSil product offerings.
- Being the applications SME to expand the utilization of NuSil’s existing product portfolio for new opportunities encompassing both BM and AT applications:
- Work with customers to capture critical product attributes and with the commercial team to define strategy for effective sampling of NuSil materials meeting customer requirements.
- Assist customer qualification activities, improving opportunity probability of success & ultimately driving growth.
- Customer-focused Technical Engagement:
- In-person & virtual support of the Commercial team (e.g., key trade shows/conferences, customers, trainings, etc.).
- Engage with the customer through technical trainings in-person or virtual.
- Quality/trouble shooting (component or material issues) at the customer location.
- Market Analysis and Insight Generation:
- Identify product / performance gaps that customers require and the value of these products to NuSil & the market.
- Understand market trends including assessment of IP landscape.
- Competitive Analysis - Evaluate competitor product launch trends and determine (technology) differentiated positioning.
- Guide NuSil product market / development strategy and guide platform technology direction.
- Technical content creation for customer visits, trade shows, marketing campaigns, etc.
- Lead response to customer technical product/application inquiries.
- Interface with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs to ensure opportunity objectives are clearly understood and cross-functional / departmental coordination is effective.
- Acquire and maintain working knowledge of commercial account management and transaction processes including the use of Salesforce as an essential tool.

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$112,400.00 - $187,400.00Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
