We are seeking an experienced and diligent Head of Compliance to join our dynamic team. You will come with extensive experience in pharmacy compliance management, a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, risk management, and corporate governance practices relating to the practice of pharmacy. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, the Head of Compliance will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive compliance programs to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements across all facets of our organization. You will also manage a small team of compliance professionals to help execute pharmacy compliance initiatives.

  • Develop and implement an effective compliance strategy in alignment with regulatory standards and organizational objectives.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the compliance program, including policies, procedures, and controls, to mitigate compliance risks.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance measures and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to departments and business units on compliance-related matters, including regulatory interpretations, licensing requirements, and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate compliance objectives into business processes, product development, and strategic initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance programs remain current and effective.
  • Lead and mentor a team of compliance professionals, fostering a culture of ethics, integrity, and accountability within the organization.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, external auditors, and legal counsel on compliance-related inquiries and investigations.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management and the board of directors on compliance activities, findings, and recommendations along with education on trending regulatory developments.
  • Proactively identify emerging compliance risks and develop proactive measures to address potential issues before they escalate.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, policy, law, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in compliance management, preferably within the pharmacy sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of pharmacy regulations, with intimate experience navigating the complexities of various states' regulatory landscapes.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, with a strong understanding of compliance principles and practices.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing effective compliance programs in complex organizations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to assess complex regulatory issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous involvement in investigations and complaints within the pharmacy sector, demonstrating a track record of successfully managing compliance challenges.
  • Experience as a state Board of Pharmacy inspector, with a keen eye for regulatory compliance and a deep understanding of the nuances of pharmacy operations.
  • Regulator experience and intelligence, with the ability to discern critical regulatory requirements and prioritize compliance efforts accordingly.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements across all 50 states in the realm of retail, specialty and mail-order pharmacy operations on a large scale.
  • Experience in both start-up and big-chain pharmacy environments, with a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities inherent in each.
  • Ideal candidates will have accreditation experience and specialized knowledge in policy management, particularly within a specific pharmacy specialty.
  • Familiarity with the delivery of medication services and associated compliance considerations is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) are a plus.
  • Experience with state BOP requirements in Alto’s pharmacy-site states - in particular, California.

  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Environmental Conditions: occasional exposure to low temperatures or high temperatures, outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind, and noisy environments.
  • Physical Activities:
    • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like.
    • Moving about to accomplish tasks and/or moving from one worksite to another.
    • Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
    • Operating motor vehicles.
    • Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $146,400.00 - $183,000.00

Commission Eligible: Yes

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes. Up to 25% of the time.

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Washington, California, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, and New York.
