Data Engineer (First Data Hire)

Alguna allows companies to optimise their revenue management by allowing them to set a unified pricing strategy, supporting complex pricing models, creating the most customizable quote options, enabling new revenue opportunities by proactively monitoring product usage and adoption, and forecasting revenue based on real-time insights.

📄 Who you are

• You're a generalist who is willing to build the foundation of our data stack, which may involve some software engineering, data engineering, devops and data analysis

• You're happy to be autonomous, making pragmatic decisions for yourself

• You're curious - if something doesn't work you figure it out, you don't depend on others to fix things for you

• You have related production experience with building a data stack from scratch

🔑 What the job involves

• 0→1: Building the foundation for data products at Alguna - this includes both internal analytics and customer facing data products

• Collaborating: We’re remote but highly collaborative in nature

• Shipping value: We’re in the early stages of building the product, so we need to get features out there, get feedback, and iterate

• Improving our internal developer experience: In order to allow us all to be efficient

• Not just writing code: We write proposals to gather feedback on upcoming work and document our decisions

• Being pragmatic: Given we’re still finding product-market fit, we will need to make tradeoffs with what we ship, and it’s not always going to be polished

🗼 Our stack

We use Typescript & Next.js and Golang for our platform. We deploy on Vercel and AWS. We use Axiom for observability and GitHub for CI and CD. We prefer always to buy tools rather than build, so we can focus our efforts on the things that differentiate us.

⏭️ Application process

• A 30-minute intro call with one of the co-founders where we’ll talk about your experience, what we’re building, and what you’re looking for in your next role

• A 30-minute call with the other co-founder to chat about the company, goals, and answer any questions you may have

• A 60-minute technical interview where we'll dive deeper into your core abilities relevant to the role through a real-life pair-programming exercise

• A 60-minute interview with some of your potential colleagues where we’ll discuss your background and how you like to work

• Assuming we are a mutual match, we’ll conduct reference checks to confirm what we learned about you throughout the interview process. Typically, we’d ask for a couple of managers or peers that you collaborated with in the recent past
