Acadia Healthcare was established in January 2005 with a clear vision: to develop and operate a network of behavioral health facilities across the United States. From its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, the company embarked on a journey to provide crucial psychiatric and chemical dependency services to patients in a variety of settings. This included inpatient psychiatric hospitals, specialty treatment facilities, residential treatment centers, and outpatient clinics. The founders recognized a growing need for specialized behavioral healthcare and aimed to create an organization that could meet this demand with high-quality, patient-focused care.

Over the years, Acadia Healthcare has grown significantly, becoming the largest stand-alone behavioral health company in the U.S. This expansion wasn't just about increasing the number of facilities; it was about extending their reach to serve more communities and individuals in need. The company's philosophy has always been one of collaboration and flexibility, fostering an energetic and team-oriented service delivery system. They have consistently valued input from employees, physicians, and strategic partners, believing that a collective approach leads to better outcomes. Acadia's mission is to create behavioral health centers where people receive care that enables them to regain hope in a supportive and caring environment. This commitment is reflected in their continuous efforts to be synonymous with excellent care, phenomenal customer service, and an unwavering dedication to their patients, staff, physicians, and the communities they serve. As of mid-2024, Acadia operated a network of 258 behavioral healthcare facilities with approximately 11,400 beds in 38 states and Puerto Rico, with over 23,500 employees serving roughly 75,000 patients daily.
