Sam Patankar
@sampatankar
ML/AI engineer building agentic systems and LLM pipelines that ship reliably in real-world settings.
What I'm looking for
I’m an ML/AI engineer working across agentic systems, LLMs and applied machine learning, with deliberately hands-on recent work. I’ve built agentic pipelines day to day and bring a track record of owning delivery and leading teams, including leading data operations and being promoted from Junior Data Scientist to Head of Data Operations.
Beyond engineering, I’ve co-founded companies and published peer-reviewed research (Nature Communications) alongside a US patent application. I’m currently building 3Desk (3desk.ai), an agentic-AI pipeline tackling multifamily housing uptake in Austin, Texas, and I’m also grounded in evaluation work (ML Evaluation, RLHF-style audits) and the details that make models reliable. With an MSc in Speech & Language Processing from the University of Edinburgh (tokenisation and sequence modelling, plus PyTorch & HuggingFace), my direction is research engineering—steady progress through start-up work, projects, competitions, and writing.

Intern - Computer Vision
WeBuyBooks
Sep 2025 - Mar 2026 (6 months)
Worked on annotation strategy and dataset QA for computer-vision model training in the WeBuyBricks division. Improved automated line throughput by tightening data-feedback loops and continuously testing the pipeline.
WeBuyBricks is a new division of WeBuyBooks, which utilised automation hardware and software from the ground-up to generate value. I worked on annotation strategy and dataset QA for computer-vision model training; raised automated-line throughput ~300% through tighter data-feedback loops and continuous pipeline testing. (6-month contract — an extension of an initial 3-month engagement.)
Structured quality audits of model training data and outputs; rated model responses against RLHF/multitask benchmarks, flagging errors and edge cases to improve reliability.
Owned data validation and QA across a high-volume pipeline feeding an NLP text-analytics product; designed automated checks; coordinated, trained and mentored a graduate technical team; standardised processes across distributed teams.
First commercial technical role: Python, Scrapy, SQL/NoSQL, AWS, Flask; helped build the ETL platform feeding the NLP product. Rapidly promoted to Head of Data Operations.
