Michalis Vasiliades

Authored successful European and Swiss funding proposals, focusing on innovative projects with high societal and commercial impact. Conducted strategic research and collaborated with clients to align project narratives with European Commission funding priorities.

Supervised undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD) students and planned and directed heterogeneous catalysis laboratory activity. Built and maintained transient gas-flow panels and equipment (MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, XRD, BET) and contributed to writing research papers and funding proposals.

Led development of a biochar solution from woody waste to enhance air quality and support bioeconomy growth. Pioneered sustainable manure application methods to improve resource use and reduce environmental impact.

Conducted mechanistic studies of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over industrial Co-based catalysts. Investigated chemical promoters using kinetic modelling and simulation, developed steady-state isotopic transient kinetic analysis (SSITKA), and applied temperature-programmed and transient isothermal techniques (TPO/TPH/TIH).

Developed research in renewable energy citizenship, environmental citizenship, environmental education, and citizen science. Wrote scientific publications and EU funding proposals (Restart, Horizon 2020, European Green Deal, Erasmus+), and co-supervised research projects.

Worked on dry reforming of natural gas or biogas over Ce-Zr-based supported metals for hydrogen production. Developed Ni and Ni-Co supported on Ce-Zr-based catalysts and performed catalytic studies using in-situ DRIFTS-MS and multiple solids characterization methods (XRD, UV-Vis, HR-TEM, SEM).

Characterized commercial Ce-Zr-O-based mixed metal oxides for three-way catalyst applications. Investigated redox functionality based on material structure and developed transient isothermal reduction and transient isotopic exchange techniques, alongside BET/BJH surface area and size distribution analysis.

Performed characterization of natural and/or waste materials using temperature-programmed techniques. Contributed to a multidisciplinary project to upgrade materials for CO2 uptake (sequestration) in building materials.
