Matthew Ryan Freer

I am a Candidate Attorney employed at Primerio International, a pan-African law firm with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have practiced in Primerio’s competition, corporate and commercial litigation department for approximately one and a half years, involved in merger control, cartel enforcement, and complex litigation across South Africa and the continent.

During my time at Primerio, I have contributed to academic articles and thought leadership pieces in competition law and broader regulatory practice, and I have participated as a speaker in industry webinars engaging legal and business professionals on topical competition and regulatory issues. I have supported major clients and transactions, including Competition Tribunal interim relief matters, cross-border merger approvals across multiple African jurisdictions, information-request responses to the Competition Commission, and advocacy work including representing an industry participant as amicus curiae in Competition Appeal Court proceedings.
